Chief Minister Launches Mizoram Universal Healthcare Scheme, Effective From April
Aizawl : Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma today launched the Mizoram Universal Healthcare Scheme, which will take effect from April 2025, at the Assembly Annexe Conference Hall.
In his inaugural address, the Chief Minister stated that the Mizoram Universal Healthcare Scheme has been introduced to replace existing healthcare schemes, ensuring seamless hospital empanelment and providing comprehensive coverage and financial protection. The scheme was developed after a thorough assessment of the state’s progress over the past five years. Despite financial constraints, the government has prioritized its implementation, with banks assuring full cooperation to make the scheme viable.
Initially, the scheme was proposed to be funded through an Asian Development Bank (ADB) loan, and discussions are ongoing. However, the Chief Minister affirmed that even if the ADB loan does not materialize, the state government remains committed to implementing the scheme successfully. With its rollout scheduled for April, the government has allocated Rs. 14.50 crore this month to settle outstanding healthcare bills.
Emphasizing the importance of development and public well-being, the Chief Minister highlighted that a strong healthcare system is vital for the overall welfare of the people. He expressed confidence that the citizens would welcome the initiative, which will be fully digitalized, paperless, and cashless, ensuring efficient and hassle-free access to healthcare.
The scheme covers government employees, civil pensioners, the general public, and all individuals holding Golden Cards under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY). Enrollment will be open during a designated period, and the annual registration fee for a family is set at Rs. 2,500, offering healthcare coverage of up to Rs. 5,00,000. Government employees and civil pensioners will contribute through monthly salary deductions.
Following his speech, the Chief Minister engaged with the media to discuss the scheme’s details.
The launch event was held during the recess of the Assembly Session and was chaired by Pu H. Lalengmawia, Commissioner & Secretary. Attendees included Pu Lalbiakzama, Speaker; Pu K. Sapdanga, Home Minister; Pi Lalrinpuii, Health & Family Welfare Minister; other Ministers, MLAs, senior officials, and members of the press.
