Raigarh Medical College Becomes the First Government Medical College in the State with Free Wi-Fi Facility

Raigarh Medical College has become the first government medical college in the state to offer free Wi-Fi services, enhancing digital accessibility for patients and visitors. This initiative aims to facilitate seamless OPD registration through the ABHA app, ensuring greater convenience and efficiency.

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai, the state government is continuously working towards integrating digital and smart services for citizens. In line with this vision, Swargiya Shri Lakhiram Agrawal Memorial Government Medical College in Raigarh has transformed its OPD registration counter and public waiting area into a free Wi-Fi zone—a first for any government medical college in the state. This innovative initiative has been implemented under the guidance of Health Minister Shri Shyam Bihari Jaiswal and Finance Minister Shri O.P. Choudhary, with Dean Dr. Vineet Jain and Hospital Superintendent Dr. M.K. Minz overseeing its execution.

A Major Step Towards Promoting Digital Healthcare

The free Wi-Fi facility aims to resolve the challenges faced by patients and their families during digital registration via the ABHA app. Now, patients visiting the Medical Records Department (MRD) section can conveniently obtain registration tokens directly from their mobile phones, eliminating delays and making the process simpler, faster, and more transparent.

According to Dr. M.K. Minz, hospital management identified that many patients struggled with mobile network issues, which hindered ABHA app registrations. This problem was particularly persistent due to the college’s hilly location. To overcome these technical obstacles, the decision was made to provide free Wi-Fi in the OPD registration area, ensuring that patients and their attendants can register without network disruptions, saving both time and effort.

Aligning with National Medical Commission (NMC) Guidelines

As per the National Medical Commission (NMC) guidelines issued on June 4, 2024, all medical colleges must ensure that OPD, IPD, and emergency service registrations are conducted using the ABHA ID. In compliance with these directives, the Chhattisgarh Medical Education Commissioner has instructed that all patient registrations in medical colleges must be carried out exclusively through the ABHA app to maintain accreditation.

Recognizing both regulatory requirements and patient convenience, Raigarh Medical College has officially launched its free Wi-Fi service in the OPD area from today. This initiative positions Raigarh Medical College at the forefront of technologically advanced healthcare institutions in Chhattisgarh and represents a significant step towards India’s Digital Health Mission.
