U.S. Begins 10% Tariff Collection in Major Global Trade Shift
The United States has officially begun collecting a new 10% import tariff, announced by President Donald Trump, starting Saturday. This sweeping tariff applies to goods from several countries, marking a significant shift in global trade policy. Beginning next week, even higher duties will be imposed on 57 major trading partners, signaling a tougher stance on international trade imbalances.
Countries including Australia, the United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Colombia are among those immediately affected. However, essential imports such as crude oil, pharmaceuticals, semiconductors, and select critical materials have been temporarily exempted from the new duties.
Further escalation is expected, with additional tariffs of 20% to 34% to be levied on goods from China and the European Union next week. The move has stirred global concern, with analysts warning of possible retaliatory measures and broader impacts on international trade dynamics.
