Develop Multimodal Transport Connectivity at Navi Mumbai International Airport: CM Devendra Fadnavis
Mumbai : Considering future challenges, there is a need to develop eco-friendly and prosperous cities with a focus on multi-modal transportation systems, job creation, and extensive use of solar energy. Emphasizing CIDCO’s crucial role in this mission, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed that multimodal transport connectivity be developed at the Navi Mumbai International Airport. He further announced that this airport will be the first in the country to offer a water taxi service.
CM Fadnavis stressed that the airport must first ensure general aviation facilities, including adequate aircraft parking and aircraft maintenance services. He instructed that connectivity through roads, railways, metro, and water transport be completed on time to ensure seamless access.
Highlighting the importance of the NAINA (Navi Mumbai Airport Influence Notified Area) project, the Chief Minister called for its speedy implementation. He noted that the roads under this project must be planned with future traffic loads in mind and emphasized strict timelines for both ongoing and future infrastructure projects. CM Fadnavis insisted that tender documents must now mandatorily include project timelines to prevent delays, especially when modern technology enables faster execution.
A robust multimodal transport system should be developed between metro stations and the airport, ensuring no inconvenience to commuters. All projects undertaken by CIDCO must be completed within the stipulated timeframes. In the housing sector, he urged for quality construction and the provision of affordable homes. He also highlighted the ongoing development of sports infrastructure in Navi Mumbai and instructed the swift completion of the Kharghar Valley Golf Course.
The Chief Minister issued these directives during a review meeting held at Sahyadri Guest House. The meeting was attended by Minister of State for Urban Development Madhuri Misal, CIDCO Managing Director Vijay Singhal, Additional Chief Secretaries Rajgopal Deora (Planning) and O.P. Gupta (Finance), and CIDCO Joint MD Shantanu Goyal, among other senior officials.
