CM Stalin to Honour Tamil Writers at Bharathidasan Birthday Finale
On the occasion of the birth anniversary of Bharathidasan, fondly known as Pavendar, and as part of the Tamil Week celebrations, the Hon’ble Chief Minister will honour five eminent Tamil writers posthumously by presenting tokens of appreciation to their families. Prizes will also be awarded to winners in various competitions during the grand finale of the Tamil Week celebrations.
The grand finale of the ‘Tamil Week’ commemorating Pavendar Bharathidasan’s birthday will be presided over by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Mr. M.K. Stalin, at Kalaivanar Arangam, Chennai, on 5th May 2025.
On 22nd April 2025, under Rule No. 110 of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly proceedings, the Hon’ble Chief Minister announced that, in honour of Bharathidasan’s birthday, Tamil Week will be celebrated from 29th April to 5th May. The celebrations will include poetry events, literary seminars, the Bharathidasan Young Writers Award, Tamil literature and cultural performances, Tamil programs in schools, music, and drama.
Various government departments such as the Department of Tamil Development, Department of Information and Public Relations, and Department of Culture have been coordinating the events across Tamil Nadu during the week. Activities include poetry readings, literary seminars, storytelling, essay competitions, poetry contests, and cultural performances.
The grand finale of Tamil Week will take place at 10:30 AM on 5th May 2025 at Kalaivanar Arangam, Chennai, in the presence of the Hon’ble Chief Minister. The event will also be attended by Hon’ble Minister for Tamil Development and Information Mr. M.P. Saminathan, Hon’ble Minister for Health and Family Welfare Mr. Ma. Subramanian, and Hon’ble Minister for Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Mr. P.K. Sekar Babu, among others. MPs, MLAs, local body representatives, and senior government officials are also expected to attend.
During this celebration, through the Department of Tamil Development, five outstanding Tamil writers will be honoured posthumously, and tokens of respect will be given to their families. Additionally, prizes will be distributed to winners of various competitions by the Hon’ble Chief Minister.
The event will also feature cultural programs such as:
- “Pavendar’s Revolutionary Songs” performed by the Pallavi Music Troupe
- “Tamil Amudhu – A Folk Program” by students of the Government Music College, Chennai, choreographed by Mr. Navaneethakumar
- “Sangava Muzhangu”, a thematic dance performance by the Anarthana Group
- A debate on “What stands out in Bharathidasan’s songs: Tamil identity or social awareness?” led by Kalaimamani Dindigul I. Leoni
Tamil enthusiasts and the general public are invited in large numbers to take part in this celebration and make it a grand success.
