125 Litres of Illegal Liquor and Vehicles Seized
Action Taken in 89 Cases
Continuous Crackdown on Illegal Liquor Sellers in Balod District
Raipur : The Excise Department is continuously taking action to curb the illegal production, storage, transportation, and sale of liquor in Balod district. This campaign is being conducted under the leadership of District Excise Officer Rajesh Kumar Sharma, following the instructions of Excise Commissioner and Managing Director of Chhattisgarh State Marketing Corporation Limited, Mr. Shyam Lal Dhawde, and the guidance of Collector Smt. Divya Umesh Mishra.
Between May 10 and 12, a total of six cases were registered across various police station jurisdictions in the district, during which 125.615 litres of country-made, foreign, and raw liquor were seized. Two two-wheelers and one bicycle were also confiscated during the operations.
According to the Excise Department:
- On May 10, in Balod police station area, 13.935 litres of liquor were seized from Vyas Narayan (Tikrapara, Dhamtari), who was arrested and sent to jail.
- 2.70 litres of country liquor were seized from Lavendra Kumar, and a case was registered.
- In Dondi police station area, 80 litres of raw Mahua liquor were confiscated from an unidentified person’s bicycle, and a case was filed.
On May 11:
- In the Gurur police station area, Yugal Kishore Nirmalkar was caught with 9.18 litres of country liquor and sent to jail under Sections 34(2) and 59(k).
- In Balod police station area again, Sudaram was found with 7.2 litres of country liquor and jailed under the same sections.
On May 12, in the Rajhara police station area, Suresh Chikwa was caught with 12.6 litres of country liquor, and legal action was taken.
In total, over the mentioned period, 45.615 litres of country-made and foreign liquor and 80 litres of raw Mahua liquor were seized in six cases.
District Excise Officer Mr. Sharma stated that between April 1 and May 12, 2025, a total of 180 raids were conducted, leading to 89 cases where 157.91 litres of illegal liquor, 2 two-wheelers, and 1 bicycle were confiscated. The estimated market value of the seized goods is around ₹1,37,265. Additionally, 7 departmental cases have been registered against operators of licensed liquor shop premises.
