S.P. Singh Assumes Charge As Additional General Manager, Eastern Railway

Mr. S.P. Singh (Sheelendra Pratap Singh) has taken over as the new Additional General Manager of Eastern Railway on 19th. May 2025.

An officer of the 1989 batch of the Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineers (IRSME), Mr. Singh is an M. Tech graduate from the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi. A distinguished career spanning over three decades, with which he brings to the post, a wealth of experience across a wide spectrum of key assignments in Indian Railways.

Mr. Singh began his railway journey as an Assistant Mechanical Engineer in the Northeast Frontier Railway. Over the years, he has served in important leadership positions including Principal Chief Mechanical Engineer of Eastern Railway, Divisional Railway Manager of Sealdah Division, Principal of the Technical Training Centre at DLW, Varanasi, Chief Workshop Manager at Mancheswar Workshop in East Coast Railway, Additional Divisional Railway Manager of Agra Division in North Central Railway and Chief Rolling Stock Engineer in East Coast Railway, among others.

His vast and diverse service profile reflects deep operational and managerial acumen. He has also enhanced his technical and administrative skills through extensive training programmes, both in India and abroad — including advanced courses in Germany, Singapore, and Malaysia.

Immediately assuming his office, he has joined a special programme held today (20.05.2025) at Fairlie Place, Eastern Railway Headquarters, observed as a mark of appreciation for the exceptional contributions to train operations, safety, security and protection of railway assets.

Mr. Milind Deouskar, General Manager, Eastern Railway, felicitated twenty employees and two officers in the presence of Mr. Soumitra Biswas, Principal Chief Operations Manager/Eastern Railway, Mr. Vikram Gupta, Principal Chief Engineer/Eastern Railway and Mr. Ram Bahadur Rai, Principal Chief Safety Officer/Eastern Railway.

Among the recipients was Mr. Suraj Kumar Sharma, Pointsman / Andal, who showed exceptional alertness on 06.03.2025 when he noticed a fire in dry grass near Line No. 13 at the Kalka end of Marshaling Yard / Andal around 11:00 hrs. The fire was rapidly spreading towards Lines 14 and 15. Without further delay, Mr. Sharma rushed to the nearby cabin, collected a fire extinguisher and successfully doused the flames preventing a major mishap.

In another notable act of vigilance displayed by Mr. Anaras Ram, Trackman / Bamangachi, who while working as Helper with the Keyman on 26.01.2025, detected a rail fracture at Liluah station limit. His timely detection helped avert a potential rail disaster.

Similarly, Mr. Saikat Laha, Loco Pilot Mail / Sealdah and Mr. Baidyanath Baidya, Senior Assistant Loco Pilot / Sealdah, demonstrated presence of mind while navigating Train No. 13113: Hazarduari Express. While approaching Gate No. 92/E, a non-signalled level crossing between Debagram & Plassey stations, they observed that the gate was open and a tractor was crossing the line. Immediate application of emergency brakes prevented an untoward incident.

Other employees demonstrating commendable actions, significantly contributing in safeguarding railway property and protecting human lives.

In addition to the employees, Mr. Vikram Gupta, Principal Chief Engineer and Mr. Saumitra Biswas, Principal Chief Operations Manager, Eastern Railway were also felicitated by the General Manager for their outstanding performance in their respective domains.
