World Environment Day Campaign – Seminar on “End Plastic Pollution” Organised by EnHM, Howrah Division.
As part of the ongoing World Environment Day campaign being observed from 22nd May to 5th June, the Environment and Housekeeping Management (EnHM) Department of Howrah Division organised a seminar on the theme “End Plastic Pollution” at the EnHM office under the direction of Divisional Railway Manager, Mr. Sanjeev Kumar. The initiative aims to promote awareness and action toward reducing plastic waste and fostering sustainable practices within railway operations.
The central seminar witnessed enthusiastic participation from Chief Health Inspectors (CHIs), office staff, and housekeeping (HK) personnel. During the event, the Senior Divisional Mechanical Engineer (EnHM & Frt) delivered a keynote address, emphasising the urgent need for collective and sustainable action to tackle the growing menace of plastic pollution. He highlighted the importance of minimising single-use plastics in railway premises and encouraged the adoption of eco-friendly alternatives in day-to-day operations.
Simultaneously, awareness campaigns were conducted at major stations across the division. On 22nd. May 2025, activities were held at Bandel, Barddhaman, and Rampurhat stations. Continuing the momentum, similar drives were organised on 23rd. May 2025 at Pakur, Bolpur, Rampurhat, and Barddhaman.
These outreach programmes are designed to educate staff and passengers on the harmful impacts of plastic pollution and inspire community participation in creating a cleaner, greener environment. The Howrah Division remains steadfast in its commitment to environmental stewardship in alignment with Indian Railways’ green initiatives. “Say No to Plastic, Say Yes to Eco-friendly Products”.
