Paved Roads Open the Doors to Development in Kamar Settlements

Dhamtari: Seven Roads Completed, 29 More on the Way
Dhamtari : Paved roads are transforming the lives of the Kamar community, a Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG) residing in the forest regions of Dhamtari district. Now, vehicles such as motorcycles, ambulances, government service vehicles, supply trucks, market vans, and even power department vehicles can smoothly reach these remote tribal settlements. Under the Pradhan Mantri Janman Yojana, concrete roads have been constructed right up to the Kamar habitations.

A total of ₹43.31 crore has been approved for constructing 36 concrete roads in two phases under this scheme. Of these, seven roads have already been completed, and construction on the remaining roads is progressing rapidly. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision—emphasizing the importance of roads in regional development—is taking shape in these remote forest areas dominated by the Kamar community. These roads are not only improving connectivity but also making essential services like education, healthcare, employment, and basic utilities more accessible.

The days of trudging through muddy and broken dirt roads during the monsoons are now over for the residents of Kamar settlements.

In the first phase, the Central Government approved ₹15.84 crore for 10 roads spanning over 29 kilometers, and in the second phase, ₹27.47 crore was sanctioned for 26 roads covering about 56 kilometers. Some of the completed roads include:

  • Umargaon to Pathar (1.80 km),
  • Koremuda to Kamarpada (approx. 1 km),
  • From the main road through Barkonha-Bagroomnala to Aamapara (4.63 km),
  • Chhindbhari-Bijapur main road to Fudhardhap-Hitli (4.63 km),
  • Makardona to Kamarpada Rajeevnagar (1.10 km),
  • Kukrel-Kantakurridih main road to Behnapathra (1.5 km),
  • Belora to Kamarpada (2.80 km).

Boodhlal Kamar, a prominent leader of the Kamar community, shared that these new roads have brought immense relief to the people. Earlier, due to the poor condition of the muddy roads, villagers faced numerous hardships—ambulances couldn’t reach the settlements during emergencies in the rainy season, delaying medical attention. Children struggled to reach school, and getting essentials like oil, vegetables, and salt from the market was a major task. Due to bad roads, government officials rarely visited these tribal villages, leaving the Kamar people unaware and deprived of government schemes.

But now, as Boodhlal Kamar stated, with these roads in place, accessing the settlements has become easy. Vehicles now run freely, and all previous problems are being resolved. On behalf of the entire Kamar community, he expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai for providing necessary amenities and taking special care of the PVTG communities.
