Heavy Rainfall Across Maharashtra: Deputy CM Eknath Shinde Directs Authorities to Stay Alert and Ensure Relief Work

Citizens Also Urged to Exercise Caution

Mumbai – With heavy rainfall lashing various parts of Maharashtra, particularly Mumbai, Konkan, and Western Maharashtra, the Meteorological Department has forecast intense showers over the next few hours. In response, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has directed district collectors and municipal commissioners to remain alert and carry out effective relief measures.

The Deputy CM held discussions with the collectors of Thane and Nashik, as well as commissioners of Thane and Mumbai municipal corporations, giving them specific instructions. He also reviewed the situation with the collectors of Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Palghar, and Raigad, and issued guidelines regarding relief efforts.

Disaster management centers in all affected districts have been instructed to operate 24/7, with officials directed to work with utmost caution and vigilance.

Deputy CM Shinde emphasized that the administration must act swiftly and effectively to prevent disruptions to public life and avoid any casualties or property damage. He also called for keeping the entire administrative machinery on high alert and ready for immediate rescue and relief operations.

Special attention must be given to waterlogged roads, bridges, live electric wires, and structurally unsafe buildings. In cities like Mumbai and Thane, steps must be taken to ensure suburban train services continue smoothly, or where disruptions occur, to minimize inconvenience to commuters.

He further appealed to the public to follow weather advisories, avoid stepping out unnecessarily, and urged residents of low-lying areas to remain particularly cautious. While the administration is ready to assist, public cooperation is equally essential, he said.

Currently, the heaviest rainfall has been recorded in Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Pune, and Nashik districts.

Deputy CM Eknath Shinde assured that the state government is closely monitoring the situation and implementing all necessary measures to ensure citizens’ safety.
