PM Shri Modi to Virtually Perform Bhoomi-Poojan for ₹778 Crore Ghats on Kshipra River from Bhopal on May 31
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will virtually perform the Bhoomi Poojan (foundation stone laying) of ghat construction and other development works under the Namami Shipra Project on May 31 from Jamboree Ground in Bhopal. These construction works, worth ₹778.91 crore, are spread across the districts of Dhar, Ujjain, Indore, and Dewas along the Shipra River.
The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for barrages, stop dams, and weighted causeways costing ₹83.39 crore. In addition, repair work on the Kaliyadeh stop dam, costing ₹1.39 crore, will also commence.
Water Resources Minister Shri Tulsiram Silawat stated that ghat construction will take place on both banks of the Shipra River from Shani Mandir to Nagda Bypass, covering a total stretch of 29.21 kilometers. To maintain adequate water levels for religious bathing and smooth movement, weighted causeways will be built.
In view of the Simhastha Mahaparva 2028, the Shipra River is being developed to ensure uninterrupted and continuous flow, for which new barrages will be constructed and existing stop dams will be repaired.
Details of Barrage/Stop Dam/Weighted Causeway Construction
Kheda Barrage – ₹2.53 crore, Dakhnakhedi Barrage – ₹3.23 crore, Patara Barrage cum Causeway – ₹3.15 crore, Ranayar Barrage – ₹3.79 crore, Tigriya Goga Barrage – ₹4.73 crore, Sironj Barrage cum Causeway – ₹6.74 crore, and Barodpipliya Barrage – ₹2.57 crore to be constructed under Namami Kshipra Project Unit, Ujjain. Kithodarao Stop Dam on , Kshipra River – ₹8.71 crore, Panthpipli Stop Dam on Kanh River – ₹5.74 crore, Jamalpura Stop Dam – ₹4.56 crore, Gothda Stop Dam – ₹6.24 crore, and Pipliya Raghao Barrage No. 02 – ₹5.06 crore, Ramwasa Barrage No. 02 – ₹6.34 crore to be construced under Water Resources Department, Dewas Gajanod Brahmanpipliya Stop Dam – ₹2.69 crore, Darzikaradiya Stop Dam – ₹2.64 crore, Kudana Stop Dam – ₹1.96 crore, Kayasthkhedi Stop Dam – ₹3.43 crore, Sahada Stop Dam – ₹4.32 crore, Lalkhedi Stop Dam (repair work) – ₹0.53 crore, and Melkalma Barrage cum Bridge – ₹4.43 crore to be constructed under Water Resources Department, Indore. Additionally, the Ujjain Municipal Corporation will undertake the repair of the Kaliyadeh Stop Dam at a cost of ₹1.39 crore.
A total of 11 new barrages will be constructed along the Kanh River – 5 in Ujjain district and 6 in Indore district. Overall, 21 barrages/stop dams will be developed on the Shipra and Kanh Rivers under the project.
