Manish Sisodia Backs Satirical ‘Cockroach Janata Party’, Viral Online Movement Sparks Political Debate
New Delhi, May 2026 : Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Manish Sisodia has publicly expressed support for the satirical online movement known as the “Cockroach Janata Party” (CJP), which is rapidly gaining traction on social media.
In an Instagram reel posted on May 20, Sisodia said, “If there is a war between a crocodile and cockroaches, I will proudly stand with the Cockroach Janata Party,” aligning himself with the symbolic protest narrative being circulated online.
The trend originates from a Supreme Court hearing on May 15, during which Chief Justice Surya Kant reportedly compared unqualified individuals entering certain professions to “cockroaches” and “parasites.” Although the remark was later clarified as being directed specifically at individuals with fake degrees and not youth in general, it triggered widespread online debate and meme-based responses.
On May 16, Abhijeet Dipke, a 30-year-old former AAP social media strategist, launched the CJP as a satirical digital platform. The movement features a mock five-point manifesto focusing on unemployment, education, healthcare, and government accountability. It quickly resonated with young users online and reportedly attracted over 6.6 million Instagram followers within days, alongside thousands of registrations.
Sisodia further amplified the narrative by describing ordinary citizens affected by inflation, exam paper leaks, and stagnant wages as “cockroaches” resisting systemic “crocodiles.” He remarked that when governance systems become corrupt or dysfunctional, “cockroaches naturally emerge,” adding that he also identifies himself as one of them.
The movement has sparked mixed reactions across social media. Many Gen-Z users have welcomed it as a creative and symbolic form of protest against systemic issues, including rising unemployment estimated at around 17 percent. However, critics have questioned its intent, suggesting possible political undertones and pointing to Dipke’s previous association with AAP-linked digital campaigns.
Although the CJP remains an unregistered and purely digital meme-driven initiative, its rapid viral growth has drawn attention from political observers and leaders across party lines. The ongoing debate highlights the increasing influence of social media satire in shaping political discourse in India.
