Stalin Launches ₹571 Cr Urban Development Projects in Chennai

Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thiru M.K. Stalin, today inaugurated 49 completed projects worth ₹571.92 crore, laid foundation stones for 16 new projects, and flagged off 50 vehicles under the Greater Chennai Corporation through the Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department.

At the Tamil Nadu Secretariat, the Hon’ble Chief Minister launched various infrastructure initiatives undertaken by the Greater Chennai Corporation, including:

  • 11 completed projects worth ₹30.60 crore under the Chennai Corporation.
  • 3 completed projects worth ₹188.55 crore under the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB).
  • 19 completed projects worth ₹102.59 crore from the Directorate of Municipal Administration.
  • 14 completed projects worth ₹77.07 crore from the Directorate of Town Panchayats.
  • 2 completed combined drinking water schemes worth ₹60.58 crore under Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board (TWAD).

He also laid the foundation stone for:

  • 9 new projects worth ₹59.60 crore under Greater Chennai Corporation.
  • 2 new projects worth ₹15.11 crore from the Directorate of Municipal Administration.
  • 5 new projects worth ₹18.38 crore under the Directorate of Town Panchayats.

Additionally, he flagged off 50 new vehicles worth ₹19.44 crore for Greater Chennai Corporation.

Details of Completed Projects:

Highlights include:

  • New school building for a government school in Manali zone.
  • Additional classrooms and toilets in Ward 33’s Bharathiyar School in Madhavaram.
  • New school buildings in Ward 71 and Rangarajapuram (Ward 132).
  • G+3 buildings with 40 classrooms and restrooms in Kalyanapuram and a similar structure with 20 classrooms in New Kamarajar Nagar.
  • Two crematorium upgrades at a cost of ₹3.06 crore in Kodungaiyur and Madhavaram.
  • A multipurpose indoor sports complex with gym, basketball court, and cricket pitch in Tiruvallur Nagar, costing ₹1.47 crore.
  • A new park in Puthagaram, Parappanchathram, for ₹1.40 crore.

Details of New Projects with Foundation Stones Laid:

Key initiatives include:

  • Three new bridges connecting various city zones (Choolai, Buckingham Canal areas, Kotturpuram, etc.) worth ₹21.03 crore.
  • A new zonal office building in Adithanar Nagar, Royapuram zone, for ₹5.40 crore.
  • A new water treatment plant in Pattinathar Nagar, Tiruvottiyur zone, for ₹9.78 crore.
  • Construction of new classrooms in schools at Jafferkhanpet, Pulianthope, Kuppam, and New Washermenpet zones.
  • A zonal office in Settuankarai, Madhavaram zone, for ₹9.50 crore.

Details of Flagged-Off Vehicles:

  • 6 water-spraying vehicles running on natural fuel.
  • 6 hydraulic machines for removing fallen trees at disaster-prone locations.
  • 16 inspection vehicles for monitoring corporation works.
  • 4 mechanical sweepers for sanitation operations.
  • 4 educational tour buses for schoolchildren.
  • 12 electric mini-vehicles under the Diesel Replacement Scheme.

These initiatives reflect the government’s commitment to improving urban infrastructure and services across Chennai.
