Rajasthan Government to Launch ‘Vande Ganga Water Conservation Jan Abhiyan’ from June 5 to 20
Campaign to Begin on the Auspicious Occasion of Ganga Dussehra
Water Conservation Must Become a Public Movement with Everyone’s Participation: CM Bhajanlal Sharma
Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma emphasized that water conservation is of paramount importance in Rajasthan due to the state’s challenging geographical conditions. He stated that the state government is focusing on raising the groundwater level and promoting rainwater harvesting. In line with this goal, the Rajasthan government will launch a statewide campaign titled ‘Vande Ganga Water Conservation Jan Abhiyan’ from June 5 to 20.
The campaign will involve the construction of water conservation structures, cleaning of water bodies, restoration of traditional reservoirs, and activities promoting environmental and water conservation. CM Sharma said that the campaign must become a mass movement, which is possible only with the participation of every individual.
Chairing a review meeting at the Chief Minister’s residence on Sunday, CM Sharma reviewed the preparations for the campaign. He noted the auspicious coincidence of World Environment Day and Ganga Dussehra falling on the same date—June 5. On this day, the campaign will be formally launched with events such as Vande Ganga Kalash Yatras and worship ceremonies at local water bodies, linking environmental preservation with cultural traditions.
CM Sharma instructed officials to ensure the active involvement of all departments and smooth coordination among them. Daily monitoring and updates of all campaign activities were also mandated to ensure its success.
Water Conservation Work to Begin at the Village Level
On the first day of the campaign, at least one water conservation initiative will be launched in every village. Jal Mitras (Water Volunteers) will be appointed at the village level to encourage maximum participation. Gram Sabha meetings will also prioritize discussions and planning around water conservation activities.
Rainwater Must Not Go to Waste
The campaign will include the initiation of new water collection and conservation projects. Alongside these efforts, the repair of dams, anicuts, and canals will be prioritized to prevent the loss of rainwater during the monsoon and to recharge groundwater levels.
Participation of Government Employees Encouraged
The Chief Minister called for widespread community involvement, including NGOs and government staff, in cleaning water bodies and building conservation structures. Daily joint shramdaan (voluntary labor) sessions by different departments were proposed. Government offices will also host water conservation pledge events. Individuals and organizations doing commendable work will be honored.
Support from Philanthropists and CSR for ‘Karmabhoomi to Matribhoomi’ Campaign
On June 10, under the Karmabhoomi to Matribhoomi initiative, completed projects will be inaugurated and new ones approved. CM Sharma urged seeking financial support from philanthropists and through CSR funding for the campaign’s execution.
Widespread Publicity and Awareness
CM Sharma directed officials to promote the campaign extensively on social media and other platforms. Public figures, religious leaders, Rajeevika women, and Anganwadi workers will be encouraged to appeal to the public for participation. Awareness campaigns through videos, songs, street plays, and more will be used to spread the message. Citizens will also be informed about the availability of saplings in nurseries to promote tree plantation.
Chief Secretary Shri Sudhansh Pant and senior officials from relevant departments attended the meeting.
