Financial Support for Bone Marrow Transplant Unit at AIIMS Nagpur through NTPC’s CSR Initiative, Inspired by CM Devendra Fadnavis’ Vision
Mumbai : To provide accessible treatment for patients suffering from sickle cell disease and thalassemia in the Vidarbha region and reduce their dependency on Mumbai for medical care, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis proposed the establishment of a Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) Unit at AIIMS Nagpur. Responding positively to this vision, NTPC has extended financial assistance for the unit through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) fund. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed to formalize this initiative.
Under the MoU, NTPC will support AIIMS Nagpur with funding for the development of infrastructure for the BMT Unit and the treatment of underprivileged patients. This specialized medical facility is expected to greatly benefit the residents of Vidarbha, especially children in need of advanced care.
CM Fadnavis expressed gratitude to NTPC for backing the establishment of the first Bone Marrow Transplant Centre at AIIMS Nagpur. He stated that this center would serve as a crucial medical facility for the people of central India, particularly for children, tribal populations, and those from rural areas. Noting the high prevalence of sickle cell disease and other genetic disorders in the region, he emphasized that eradicating such diseases is a national goal, as outlined by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The NTPC-funded initiative will bring much-needed relief to patients who otherwise had to travel to cities like Mumbai or Delhi for treatment.
Support Details: The financial aid will cover infrastructure development, patient treatment, medications, and related medical services.
Project Features:
The unit will be constructed within the MIHAN campus of AIIMS Nagpur. It will include infrastructure development, diagnostic facilities, essential medications, services of external specialists, and complete treatment costs. As per CSR guidelines, the NTPC logo and acknowledgment of its support will be prominently displayed at the unit.
NTPC has long been involved in healthcare, education, and social development through its CSR efforts. This collaboration with a premier government medical institution like AIIMS Nagpur aims to deliver cutting-edge medical services to the most vulnerable sections of society.
AIIMS Nagpur is rapidly emerging as a center of excellence for advanced healthcare and medical research. The establishment of the BMT Unit will ensure that patients suffering from blood cancer and other critical illnesses in Vidarbha have access to high-quality treatment without needing to travel to metropolitan cities.
