Mizoram Heritage & Tourism Development Committee Meeting Held
Aizawl : Pu Lalnghinglova Hmar, Minister of Tourism, chaired a meeting of the Mizoram Heritage & Tourism Development Committee in the Chief Secretary’s Conference Hall at the Secretariat, MINECO. Representatives from the Tourism Department, Art & Culture Department, Information & Public Relations Department, Land Revenue & Settlement Department, and Planning & Programme Implementation Department attended. Pu Manaj Saha, President of the UNESCO NGO Partner Association Internationale des Arts Plastiques/International Association of Art (AIAP/IAA) India Chapter, was also present.
At the meeting, Minister Hmar emphasized the vital role that promoting local arts and empowering artisans plays in preserving our cultural heritage and providing sustainable livelihoods. He noted that showcasing Mizo handcrafts and traditional villages can encourage both domestic and international visitors to explore our state’s unique cultural landscape. The Minister highlighted the importance of developing training programs and organizing cultural exhibitions to help artisans reach wider markets and increase their incomes.
Committee members discussed strategies to identify and document heritage sites—especially those linked to various ethnic groups—in order to promote Mizoram’s diverse traditions. They agreed on the need for capacity-building workshops for local communities so they can manage and maintain these sites. Participants also reviewed plans to partner with UNESCO and other international bodies to enhance the visibility of Mizoram’s heritage on the global stage.
Finally, the committee outlined next steps to streamline interdepartmental coordination and allocate resources for conservation projects. By fostering collaboration among government agencies, NGOs, and local stakeholders, the Mizoram Heritage & Tourism Development Committee aims to ensure that the state’s rich cultural assets are preserved and celebrated for generations to come.
