Union Law Minister Reviews Key Central Schemes, Stresses Effective Implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission

Jaipur : Union Minister for Law and Justice and Bikaner MP, Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal, chaired a meeting of the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) at the Bikaner Collectorate on Monday. The meeting reviewed the progress of 39 major centrally-sponsored schemes and programs.

Focusing on the Jal Jeevan Mission, the Minister described it as a flagship scheme of the Central Government, personally monitored by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He stressed that no irregularities should occur at any level, and that quality and timely completion of works must not be compromised. He reviewed 170 minor and 5 major drinking water supply schemes under the mission, directing officials to work sincerely and responsibly to ensure tap water reaches every household. He assured that funding would not be a constraint.

The Union Minister emphasized strict monitoring of works under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) by the power corporation. He instructed the deployment of additional teams to promptly restore damaged electric poles, especially in desert regions prone to storms. He called for awareness camps to promote the PM Surya Ghar Yojana in rural areas, and for immediate replacement of burnt transformers during summer.

Regarding infrastructure, Shri Meghwal underlined the importance of advancing Bikaner’s road network and urged the swift resolution of pending compensation cases under the Bharatmala Project.

He further emphasized that no eligible family should be left out of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). Under the AMRUT Scheme, he instructed the formulation of action plans to cover sewage and drainage gaps in urban bodies. He called for coordinated efforts to improve Bikaner city’s sanitation ranking.

To raise awareness among farmers, Shri Meghwal directed the organization of camps for the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) and recommended increased monitoring of development activities in PM SHRI Schools. He instructed camps under the ADIP and Vayoshree schemes by the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment and distribution of assistive devices to identified disabled persons.

The Minister also directed effective monitoring of Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) beneficiaries and emphasized eliminating gender bias in society, suggesting strict enforcement of the PCPNDT Act. He urged formation of sub-divisional teams to combat illegal mining collaboratively.

He praised the nationwide recognition received by Rajasthan’s ‘Give Up’ campaign under the Food and Civil Supplies Department, which helped ensure food security for eligible yet previously excluded beneficiaries.

Discussing energy infrastructure, Shri Meghwal mentioned ongoing efforts for gas pipeline projects through coal gasification and gasonet technologies. He also directed the formulation of a district climate action plan and discussed the potential of night tourism in the area.

Food and Civil Supplies Minister Shri Sumit Godara instructed the collection of department-wise OPD reports for PBM Hospital and proposed initiating a medicine outpatient wing modeled after Jaipur. He also recommended more serious oversight of the Cancer Research Center, a review of pink toilet facilities, and public awareness to prevent street littering by shopkeepers.

He directed the distribution of application formats for PM SHRI Schools to increase school enrollment under the scheme. Godara also instructed that ANMs at sub-health centers receive childbirth training and emphasized encouraging institutional deliveries and better monitoring of underutilized centers.

He called for strong monitoring of DMFT-approved works, an early scheduling of the next review meeting, and prioritization of classroom construction proposals under DFAT. He noted that 106,000 people were added under the Food Security Scheme, while over 86,000 voluntarily surrendered benefits. He added that 21.35 lakh individuals in the district are now covered under the NFSA.

The meeting was attended by Khajuwala MLA Dr. Vishwanath Meghwal, Nokha MLA Smt. Sushila Dudi, District Head Shri Modaram, District Collector Smt. Namrata Vrishni, Superintendent of Police Shri Kavendra Sagar, and other public representatives and officials.
