Chief Minister Chairs Mizoram Security Coordination Committee Meeting
Aizawl : Today, the Mizoram Security Coordination Committee held its first meeting under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma. The meeting was convened to strengthen and coordinate the work of all enforcement agencies tasked with securing the state’s international and inter-state borders.
Key issues discussed included the current status of the Indo–Myanmar and Indo–Bangladesh international borders, as well as Mizoram’s boundaries with neighboring states. The meeting focused on matters such as illegal border crossings, smuggling activities, and strategies for better coordination going forward.
A specific issue addressed was the temporary check post and sentry shed set up by the Tripura State Rifles near New Kawnpui on the Tripura–Mizoram border. Following discussions at the Chief Secretary and DGP levels, the Tripura Rifles withdrew their presence from the area.
The meeting also reviewed Mizoram’s crime records. The state currently records a high number of violent crime cases, especially under the POCSO Act (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences). Under the NDPS Act, a total of 338 cases were registered in 2024. This year, up to the month of May, 114 cases have already been recorded.
In terms of seizures:
- Methamphetamine tablets amounting to 648.824 kg were seized by May 2025, with an estimated street value of Rs. 84 crore.
- Crystal methamphetamine weighing 5.169 kg was also seized, valued at approximately Rs. 15.5 crore.
In 2024, 47 cases related to arms and explosives were registered, with 56 individuals arrested. In 2025, up to May, 34 such cases have already been registered and 51 people arrested.
The meeting also discussed:
- Issues related to the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system.
- Challenges in implementing the One Nation, One Ration Card scheme for displaced persons from Manipur.
- The need for streamlined permit processes for international tourists who wish to visit Mizoram.
The meeting was attended by Home Minister Pu K. Sapdanga, Excise & Narcotics Minister Pu Lalnghinglova Hmar, Chief Secretary Pu Khilli Ram Meena, DGP Pu Anil Shukla, and senior officials from the state government and law enforcement agencies. The participants noted that this initial meeting was highly productive.
