All Accused Including Sonam to Appear in Court Today; SIT Begins Intensive Interrogation

Shillong, June 11: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) is set to begin a full-scale probe into the shocking murder of Raja Raghuvanshi, with all key accused, including his wife Sonam, scheduled to be produced before the Shillong court today. Prior to the court appearance, mandatory medical examinations of all the accused will be conducted. Following this, the SIT will initiate detailed interrogations, particularly focusing on Sonam, who is considered a prime suspect.

Shillong police are also continuing their questioning of the other accused to piece together the entire chain of events. Officials are planning a crime scene reconstruction involving both Sonam and the main accused to better understand how the murder unfolded. They will also be taken to various locations where they stayed before or after the crime, as part of the identification and evidence collection process.

A high-level SIT team has been formed for the interrogation, comprising two senior SP-rank officers, a woman officer, and several other experienced investigators. Their goal is to extract crucial information and understand the motive and planning behind the murder. Meghalaya’s Director General of Police (DGP) is being briefed daily on the developments.

Meanwhile, investigators have recovered significant evidence from the crime scene. These include a raincoat, a shirt, broken mobile phone parts, electronic gadgets, blood-stained clothing, fingerprints, and the weapon allegedly used in the murder. All recovered items have been sent for forensic analysis, with reports awaited. Authorities believe the forensic results will offer key insights and help crack the case.

The case has garnered widespread attention due to its dramatic developments. Raja Raghuvanshi and Sonam had gone to Meghalaya’s scenic Sohra region in the East Khasi Hills district for their honeymoon on May 20. However, the couple went missing on May 23. The mystery deepened when Raja’s body was discovered in a gorge on June 2, while Sonam remained untraceable. In a surprising twist, Sonam surfaced at a roadside eatery in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, on the night of June 8-9. She contacted her family from there, and soon after, reports of her surrender to police emerged.

The SIT is now focused on uncovering the truth behind the murder, with today’s court proceedings and interrogation expected to yield vital leads.

Team Maverick.
