“She Deserves the Death Penalty”: Family Disowns Sonam After Husband’s Murder Revelation
Indore/Shillong — In a shocking turn of events following the investigation into the brutal murder of Raja Raghuvanshi, the accused’s own family has now turned against her. After the Meghalaya Police revealed that Sonam Raghuvanshi masterminded her husband’s killing, her brother, Govind Raghuvanshi, publicly disowned her and called for the death penalty.
Govind met Raja’s grieving parents in Indore on Wednesday to express remorse on behalf of his family. Speaking to reporters outside the residence, Govind said, “We will boycott her completely. No one from our family will support her. If the court finds her guilty, we wish she gets the death penalty.”
Accompanied by Raja’s brother, Vipin Raghuvanshi, Govind also distanced himself from Sonam’s alleged affair with co-accused Raj Kushwaha. “We had no idea about their relationship. Raj was just an employee in our business. Sonam even tied rakhi to him,” he said. On another suspect, Jitendra Raghuvanshi, Govind confirmed, “He is our cousin and worked in our family business as well.”
According to police, Raj Kushwaha worked as an accountant at a furniture unit run by Sonam’s family and had been in a relationship with her for several months.
Meanwhile, the investigation continues to uncover more evidence. On Wednesday, a joint team of Meghalaya and Indore Police searched the home of accused Vishal Chauhan. During the raid, clothes worn during the crime were recovered.
“Based on Chauhan’s statement, we seized the pants and shirt he wore at the time of Raja Raghuvanshi’s murder,” said Indore ACP Poonamchandra Yadav. “These will be sent to the forensic science lab to test for bloodstains.”
In another development, a 12-member Meghalaya Police team, with assistance from Indore Police, secured transit custody of the four accused—Raj Kushwaha, Vishal Chauhan, Akash Rajput, and Anand Kurmi—from a local court and transported them to Shillong for further interrogation and trial.
The case, which has stunned the nation, now enters a critical phase as the courts prepare to try one of the most cold-blooded murders in recent memory—one that has left not only the victim’s family devastated, but also shattered bonds within the accused’s own household.
