Chennai Customs seizes 2416 grams of ganja at Chennai International Airport
Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) Chennai Customs seized 2416 grams of ganja at Chennai International Airport on the night of 12th June 2025. Acting on specific intelligence, officers of the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) Chennai Customs intercepted an Indian male passenger who had arrived from Bangkok, Thailand on Flight No. FD153 at Chennai International Airport.
On examination of the checked-in baggage of the passenger, officers recovered 5 Silver coloured packets containing transparent, vacuum sealed pouches with green-colored flowering/fruiting tops emitting a strong odor. The substance was suspected to be hydrophonic Ganja/Marijuana a prohibited substance for import under Section 8(c) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
The field test confirmed the substance to be Ganja/ Marijuana. A total of 2416 grams of ganja was recovered. The passenger has been arrested under the NDPS Act, 1985 by Customs and remanded to Judicial Custody by Judicial Magistrate, Special Court of Customs, Alandur.
