Minister Girish Mahajan Reviews Rescue Operations at Kundmala
Pune : Maharashtra’s Water Resources and Disaster Management Minister Girish Mahajan visited Kundmala in Maval Taluka this evening to assess the situation and review rescue operations at the site where a bridge over the Indrayani River collapsed.
Accompanying the minister were Divisional Commissioner Dr. Chandrakant Pulkundwar, Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissioner Vinaykumar Chaube, District Collector Jitendra Dudi, Zilla Parishad CEO Gajanan Patil, Sub-Divisional Officer Surendra Navale, Tehsildar, and Block Development Officer, among other officials.
Minister Mahajan inspected the collapse site near Indori village, where the bridge over the Indrayani River gave way. Speaking to the media afterward, he announced that the families of the deceased will receive ₹5 lakh as financial assistance from the government, and the entire cost of treatment for the injured will be borne by the state government.
NDRF teams, Disaster Mitra volunteers, fire brigades from Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and PMRDA, as well as local rescue groups, are on-site conducting rescue operations on a war footing. Locals have also played a significant role in aiding the rescue efforts. An official inquiry into the incident will be conducted.
Minister Mahajan called the incident deeply unfortunate and stressed that the government remains vigilant in such matters. He urged tourists and citizens to exercise caution going forward.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, and Deputy CM and District Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar have expressed their condolences to the bereaved families of the victims.
