Operation Sindhu: 110 Indian Students Evacuated from Iran to Reach Delhi on June 19

New Delhi : As tensions escalate in the region, India has launched ‘Operation Sindhu’ to evacuate its nationals from war-hit northern Iran. Under this mission, 110 Indian students have been successfully evacuated and are expected to arrive in New Delhi in the early hours of Thursday, June 19.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Wednesday, the Indian Embassy facilitated the students’ safe passage from northern Iran to Armenia on June 17. “The students travelled by road to Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, under the close supervision of our Missions in Iran and Armenia,” the statement said.

From Yerevan, the students boarded a special flight at 2:55 PM on June 18, and are now en route to India. Their return marks a significant milestone in the early stages of Operation Sindhu, which was initiated amid the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel.

The Government of India expressed gratitude to the governments of Iran and Armenia for their cooperation and support in enabling the smooth evacuation process.

“India gives utmost priority to the safety and security of its nationals abroad,” the MEA reaffirmed. “As part of the operation, the Indian Embassy in Iran has been helping large numbers of citizens relocate from areas experiencing heightened hostilities to safer regions and coordinating their eventual evacuation using all viable routes.”

The MEA also issued an advisory urging Indian citizens currently in Iran to remain in close contact with the Indian Embassy in Tehran via its emergency helpline. Additionally, the Ministry’s 24×7 Control Room in New Delhi continues to provide support and real-time updates.

As regional tensions persist, the Indian government remains committed to ensuring the safety of all its citizens in conflict zones through timely intervention and coordinated evacuation efforts.
