Under the Leadership of CM Dr. Mohan Yadav, a Water Revolution is Underway

Madhya Pradesh is implementing Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of empowering the poor, farmers, youth and women, while also promoting nature, environmental protection and water conservation as a mission. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, the state is witnessing a “water revolution” through the “Jal Ganga Sanvardhan Abhiyan.” The campaign is exceeding its targets in constructing farm ponds, Amrit Sarovars and dugwell recharge pits. These efforts will not only expand irrigation but also raise groundwater levels and boost rural livelihoods.

Early Planning with Modern Software

The MANREGA Council began preparations as early as January–February using the Planner software, allowing for efficient planning at the gram panchayat level with minimal data entry. New works under the Jal Ganga campaign were included in this plan, along with unfinished projects from the previous year. Madhya Pradesh is the first state in the country to introduce such an innovation.

SIPRI Software for Site Selection

The Council developed the SIPRI software (Software for Identification and Planning of Rural Infrastructure) with support from MPSEDC and ISRO, to scientifically select locations for new water structures. This GIS-based tool identifies suitable sites for quality water conservation structures such as farm ponds, Amrit Sarovars and dugwell recharge pits. Teams from Bihar, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra have visited Madhya Pradesh to study this innovative approach.

Real-Time Monitoring with Dashboard

To ensure transparency and continuous monitoring, a public dashboard https://dashboard.nregsmp.org/report_jsm was created. It shows project progress, expenditure and weekly updates shared with district collectors. Over 1.27 lakh people have regularly viewed the dashboard.

Campaign Duration and Progress

The Jal Ganga Sanvardhan Abhiyan was launched on March 30 from Ujjain by CM Dr. Yadav and will conclude on June 30 in Khandwa. As of June 21, the campaign has surpassed targets. During Campaign, 82,310 Farm Ponds (Target-77,940), 1,03,000 Dugwell Recharge Pits (Target-1,03,900), 1,283 Amrit Sarovars (Target: 992) were constructed. Additionally, 19,949 older projects have been completed. These works are being executed under MANREGA with an expenditure of Rs. 2,334 crore.

Massive Public Participation: 2.3 Lakh Jaldoots Registered

To increase public awareness, the state had set a target to register 1.62 lakh Jaldoots (water volunteers). This number has now crossed 2.3 lakh.

AI, SIPRI, and Planner Sofware: Used First Time in Water Conservation

For the first time, AI, SIPRI and Planner software have been deployed for constructing farm ponds, Amrit Sarovars and recharge pits. This has enabled timely completion of targets with a focus on quality. Other states are now considering adopting this model. Data from the campaign dashboard is analyzed through AI and shared directly with officers via WhatsApp, comparing each district’s progress with others to improve performance.
