Farmer Earns Double Profit by Growing Maize Instead of Paddy
Farmer: Shri Malti Mohan
Raipur : In line with Chief Minister Shri Vishnudev Sai’s vision, various schemes are being implemented in Jashpur district to promote water conservation and increase farmers’ income. One such beneficiary is Shri Malti Mohan, a farmer from Kadro village in the Pathalgaon development block.
Earlier, Shri Mohan used to grow summer paddy, but this season, under the guidance of the Agriculture Department, he cultivated maize on two acres of land. This shift resulted in a net income of ₹88,200 — which is double the profit compared to paddy cultivation.
Shri Malti Mohan shared that he consulted the Agriculture Department and sowed maize, incurring a total expense of ₹11,800, which included fertilizers, seeds, and other necessities. From the sale of maize, he earned ₹1 lakh, leaving him with a clean profit of ₹88,200. In contrast, paddy farming during the summer season demands higher investment and significantly more water, yet offers relatively lower returns.
Expressing his gratitude to Chief Minister Shri Sai and the district administration, Shri Mohan said he is now inspired to grow alternative crops instead of paddy. This decision not only improved his financial condition but also contributed to water conservation and environmental sustainability.
