Chief Minister Convenes Mizoram State Policy Coordination Committee Meeting
Aizawl : A meeting of the Mizoram State Policy Coordination Committee was convened today under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma at the CM Conference Hall. The meeting focused on reviewing the progress made by implementation partners under the Handholding Scheme.
During the meeting, it was reported that a total of 11,438 loan applications have been submitted under the loan component. Out of these, 588 have been approved by line departments, while 1,687 applications are still pending preparation of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs). A total of 8,249 applications are currently under review. 914 applications have been rejected. Rejected applicants will be informed about the reasons and given the opportunity to reapply with proper documentation.
Of the total approved applications, 517 have been forwarded to banks, and 51 individuals have already received their loans. A major hurdle in disbursing loans is that many applicants have not completed the PMEGP portal registration, which is a prerequisite for loan sanction. However, banks have now expressed willingness to support applicants more proactively.
Apart from loan-related challenges, many applicants have submitted requests for financial support that exceed the permissible amount, making it difficult for both line departments and banks to process their applications efficiently. Additionally, scheme convergence with Central Government initiatives has also made loan disbursement more complex.
Insurance companies involved in crop and livestock insurance were also encouraged to actively roll out their schemes in a more efficient manner.
Under the Chief Minister’s Special Package, the initial target was to cover 2,000 beneficiaries. However, as many low-income applicants failed to meet eligibility criteria, 2,226 individuals have been shortlisted. Due to higher fund requirements from several applicants, the final number of beneficiaries may vary. Those selected under the CM Special Package will receive preliminary training, followed by disbursal of funds.
It was also decided that during July, line departments will intensify their loan mobilization efforts. From August onwards, the scheme will enter a renewed implementation phase. Members also discussed key components necessary for the effective and sustained rollout of the scheme.
The Chief Minister noted with appreciation the strong participation of committee members in today’s meeting.
