Approval of Pune Metro Phase II Will Help Ease Traffic Congestion and Improve Transport: Deputy CM Ajit Pawar
Deputy CM reviews key development projects in Pune and across Maharashtra through PMU
Mumbai : Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union Cabinet for approving Phase II of the Pune Metro Rail Project, which includes:
- Vanaz to Chandni Chowk (Corridor 2A) and
- Ramwadi to Wagholi-Vitthalwadi (Corridor 2B).
He stated that this decision would play a crucial role in easing Pune’s traffic congestion, improving the city’s public transport system, and boosting economic, industrial, commercial, and educational growth in Pune and its surrounding areas.
Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, who also serves as Pune’s Guardian Minister, had been consistently monitoring the progress of Pune’s development projects through his Project Monitoring Unit (PMU). He had held regular review meetings and advocated for the expansion of the metro network, which has now borne fruit with this approval.
The first phase of the Pune Metro covered the Vanaz to Ramwadi corridor. The newly approved Phase II includes two elevated corridors:
- Vanaz to Chandni Chowk (Corridor 2A)
- Ramwadi to Wagholi-Vitthalwadi (Corridor 2B)
Together, these corridors will span 12.75 kilometers and feature 13 stations. These routes will primarily benefit commuters from Chandni Chowk, Bavdhan, Kothrud, Kharadi, and Wagholi suburbs, while also supporting Pune’s growing IT, commercial, and industrial hubs.
The total estimated cost of the project is ₹3,626.74 crore, and the government aims to complete it within four years.
As part of his commitment to the overall development of Pune city and district, Deputy CM Pawar continues to lead regular review meetings with concerned officials to identify and resolve bottlenecks and accelerate project execution. On June 25, he chaired another PMU meeting, reviewing key development projects in Pune and across Maharashtra, in the presence of senior officials from relevant departments both in Pune and at the Mantralaya (State Secretariat).
