CM Dhami Directs Acceleration of Jamrani and Saung Dam Projects
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed officials to expedite work on the Jamrani Dam Multipurpose Project and the Saung Dam Drinking Water Project. The instructions were given during a high-level meeting held on Friday at the Chief Minister’s residence.
The Chief Minister emphasized that all project-related work must progress in a phased and time-bound manner. While the target for completion of the Jamrani Dam Project is currently set for June 2029, the Chief Minister instructed officials to advance the deadline to December 2028. Similarly, he directed that the Saung Dam Drinking Water Project should also be completed ahead of its scheduled deadline of March 2030.
Jamrani Dam Multipurpose Project
- Estimated cost: ₹3,808 crore
- Scope of work:
- Construction of a 150.6-meter high dam
- Reconstruction of a 42.92 km-long canal
- Construction of a 21.25 km-long new canal
- Impact:
- Provision of 117 MLD (Million Litres per Day) of drinking water to Haldwani city and nearby areas, covering a future population of around 10.5 lakh
- Development of a 9 km-long reservoir, envisioned as a new tourist destination
- Creation of irrigation potential for an additional 57,000 hectares
Saung Dam Drinking Water Project
- Estimated cost: ₹2,492 crore
- Scope of work:
- Construction of a 130.6-meter high dam
- Development of a 14.70 km-long, 1.5-meter diameter water conveyance system
- Construction of an 85 km water distribution network
- Establishment of a 150 MLD water treatment plant
- Impact:
- By 2053, the project will ensure gravity-based supply of 150 MLD of drinking water to Dehradun and suburban areas, serving an estimated 10.65 lakh population
- The resulting 3.5 km-long reservoir will also be developed into a tourist destination
The meeting was attended by senior officials including Principal Secretary R.K. Sudhanshu, Secretaries S.N. Pandey and Yugal Kishore Pant, Additional Director General of Police A.P. Anshuman, and Additional Secretary Banshidhar Tiwari.
