Police Must Enforce Strong Preventive Mechanisms to Curb Crime – Guardian Minister Chandrakant Patil
Sangli : Maharashtra’s Higher and Technical Education Minister and Guardian Minister for Sangli District, Chandrakant Patil, today directed the police force to implement effective and result-oriented preventive mechanisms to control crime and ensure law and order is maintained in the district.
Chairing a review meeting at the Police Headquarters on the district’s law and order situation, the minister instructed officers to strengthen their approach. The meeting was attended by Superintendent of Police Sandeep Ghughe, Resident Deputy Collector Ajay Pawar, Additional Municipal Commissioner Ravikant Adsul, Sub-Divisional Police Officers Vimala M. (Sangli) and Pranil Gilda (Miraj), Local Crime Branch Inspector Satish Shinde, and Special Officer to the Guardian Minister Balasaheb Yadav, along with senior police officials.
Minister Patil stressed the need to organize workshops for Peace Committee Chairpersons and Police Patils, ensuring they understand their responsibilities in maintaining harmony. He praised the police and district administration for their successful crackdown on drug trafficking and urged continued vigilance to prevent serious domestic and other crimes before they occur.
He directed authorities to monitor externed criminals and those out on bail and to strengthen intelligence-gathering systems. He recommended that community outreach efforts be stepped up by deploying ‘Police Dada’ and ‘Police Didi’ officers to conduct door-to-door awareness and counseling.
The minister emphasized building a positive image of the police among citizens and promoting helpline services for women and girls. He called for awareness programs in schools and colleges on issues such as cybercrime, narcotics, and child safety, and urged officers to engage directly with students and parents through training sessions.
Highlighting the role of social media, he advised continuous monitoring and public education on responsible use of digital platforms.
Minister Patil said crime prevention efforts should be a collective endeavor involving the administration, police, civil society organizations, and citizens, all working together to implement meaningful reforms.
During the meeting, he also reviewed recent urban and rural crime incidents. Superintendent of Police Sandeep Ghughe provided a detailed presentation, affirming that all major crimes in the district had been solved.
To mark International Day Against Drug Abuse, Minister Patil unveiled an awareness short film created by the police department to educate the public on the harms of substance abuse.
