Forest Dept to plant 1.14 crore saplings along roads across UP
Lucknow : To mark Van Mahotsav from July 1 to 7, the Yogi government is launching a large-scale plantation campaign aimed at boosting green cover across Uttar Pradesh. As part of this ambitious drive, the Forest Department will plant 1.14 crore saplings along roadsides, contributing significantly to the state’s monsoon plantation target of 35 crore trees during the 2025 season.
The nodal agency for the plantation drive, the Forest Department, has completed preparations for the campaign. A total of 52.43 crore saplings have been prepared in 2,586 nurseries across the state to ensure successful implementation. In addition to roadside plantations, UPEIDA will carry out the plantation of 2.5 lakh saplings along expressways, further supporting the state’s green agenda.
The campaign is being conducted with the cooperation of various departments, showcasing a coordinated effort to expand forest cover and promote ecological sustainability throughout the state. Here is a breakdown:
- Forest Department: 1,901 nurseries – 47.27 crore saplings
- Horticulture Department: 146 nurseries – 1.55 crore saplings
- Sericulture Department: 55 nurseries – 44 lakh saplings
- Private Nurseries: 484 nurseries – 3.17 crore saplings
Under this campaign, the Forest Department will plant 1.14 crore saplings along roadsides. In addition, a large number of saplings will be planted along expressways. The responsibility for planting trees along expressways has been given to UPEIDA. It will plant 2.5 lakh saplings near five major expressways, as per the targets below:
- Bundelkhand Expressway: 1,20,000 saplings
- Purvanchal Expressway: 60,000 saplings
- Ganga Expressway: 40,000 saplings
- Gorakhpur Link Expressway: 20,000 saplings
- Agra–Lucknow Expressway: 10,000 saplings
Deepak Kumar, Mission Director of the Plantation Campaign 2025, said, “As per the vision of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, all preparations for planting 35 crore saplings across Uttar Pradesh are now complete. On Saturday, the Chief Minister also held a meeting with department officials regarding this initiative. The Forest Department will plant 1.14 crore trees along roadsides, while UPEIDA has been assigned the task of planting 2.5 lakh trees along expressways. With everyone’s cooperation, we are rapidly moving towards making Uttar Pradesh a greener state.”
