Health Minister Pi Lalrinpuii Inspects ZMC&H Expansion; 46 New Beds Inaugurated

Aizawl | Health Minister Pi Lalrinpuii visited Zoram Medical College & Hospital (ZMC&H) at Falkawn to inspect the ongoing development and expansion works. She was accompanied by the Adviser to the Chief Minister, Pu TBC Lalvenchhunga, Dr. Lalthlengliani (Principal Director, Directorate of Hospital & Medical Education), and Dr. Ngurchamliana (Director, DHME).

During her inspection, Pi Lalrinpuii interacted with various departments and staff at ZMC&H, assessing their needs and challenges. She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to continue improving facilities for both patients and healthcare workers under the Mizoram Universal Health Care Scheme.

Key highlights of the visit and updates from ZMC&H:

• Medicine Ward: A new 26-bed unit has been completed and is ready for immediate use.
• Gynaecology Ward: A 10-bed ward is now operational.
• Cabins: Ten new patient cabins have been inaugurated. With the previous set of 10 already functioning, an additional 10 cabins are also planned soon.
• Orthopaedic Ward: Bed capacity increased by 30, bringing the total to 56.
• Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU): Two new NICU beds added, bringing the total to eight.
• Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU): Currently has three beds, with another under development.
• Integrated Care Unit (ICU): Thirteen new beds added to the existing 13, totaling 26.
• Operation Theatres (5): New OTs established – Gynaecology (2), Cardiology (1), Neurology (1), and General Surgery (1).
• Cardiology Ward: A newly constructed six-bed unit nearing completion.
• Staffing: Recruitment includes 20 Multitask Workers, 64 Casual Nurses, and additional Junior Residents. Dr. Zothansanga Zadeng (MCH Neurosurgery) is also actively involved in training students and providing specialist care.

During the inspection, Pi Lalrinpuii expressed gratitude to the hospital staff and reiterated confidence in the department’s continued progress.
