Mini Plug-Type Seedling Units: A New Quality Planting Solution for Farmers

Annual production capacity of 2 million seedlings offers time and cost benefits

Raipur | The Mini Plug-Type Seedling Units are emerging as a breakthrough innovation for farmers in Chhattisgarh, offering a modern solution to the challenges of traditional sowing methods. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, the state government is committed to promoting agricultural technologies that directly benefit farmers and boost their income—aligning with the vision of Prosperous Farmers, Empowered Chhattisgarh.

These seedling units, established in Surajpur district at the government horticulture centers in Datima and Khorma, have a combined annual production capacity of 2 million seedlings. They provide high-quality, healthy saplings of various vegetables, spices, and flowers—including bitter gourd, tomato, brinjal, marigold, chili, cauliflower, cabbage, cucumber, and watermelon.

The seedlings grown in these units are disease-free, healthy, and of superior quality, helping farmers achieve better yields. If farmers supply their own seeds, they can obtain seedlings at just ₹1.00 per plant. When seeds are provided by the department, the cost is ₹1.50 per plant. These units also prepare grafted seedlings of tomato and brinjal on demand, which are known for higher productivity.

Typically, it takes 25 to 30 days to prepare a seedling, ensuring that farmers receive advanced varieties of plants in time for transplantation. This service spares them the labor-intensive and time-consuming process of traditional seed sowing. Instead, it provides a modern, faster, and more reliable alternative.

By providing cost-effective and timely access to quality planting materials, the Mini Plug-Type Seedling Units are helping farmers transition to modern agriculture practices. This initiative reflects the pro-farmer vision of the Vishnu Deo Sai government and is playing a significant role in improving agricultural productivity and rural livelihoods in Chhattisgarh.
