District Hospital’s NRC Emerges as Lifesaver for Malnourished Children

1,953 children nourished back to health, moving toward a healthier future

Raipur | The Nutrition Rehabilitation Centre (NRC) at the District Hospital in Bemetara has become a vital lifeline for severely malnourished children, offering hope and health to those most vulnerable. Under the guidance of Health Minister Mr. Shyam Bihari Jaiswal, the NRC has evolved into a powerful social initiative. So far, it has successfully rehabilitated 1,953 children, helping them move toward a healthier and more stable life.

Located in the MCH (Maternal and Child Health) building of the district hospital, the NRC provides free, specialized care and nutritional support to severely malnourished children between the ages of 1 month and 5 years.

Children admitted to the NRC receive therapeutic foods such as F-75 and F-100, along with formula milk and balanced meals like porridge, khichdi, halwa, and idli, over a 15-day period. Mothers are also given two nutritious meals daily and provided with financial assistance of ₹2,250 after the completion of their child’s 15-day stay.

Admission to the NRC is made simple through referrals from Anganwadi workers, Mitanins, ANMs (Auxiliary Nurse Midwives), and Chirayu teams, or even directly by the child’s guardians.

Behind the success of this initiative is the dedication of the health department’s team and the proactive involvement of the district administration. The NRC not only helps children recover physically but also raises awareness among families about the importance of nutrition and health.

This initiative is proving to be a milestone in Bemetara’s journey toward becoming a malnutrition-free district, setting a strong example for community-driven public health efforts in Chhattisgarh.
