100% Faculty Recruitment Approved in Engineering Institutes – CM Devendra Fadnavis
Vacant Posts in Public Universities and Aided Colleges to Be Filled Promptly
Mumbai – Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has approved full-scale recruitment of teaching and non-teaching staff in Maharashtra’s government-aided engineering institutions. He emphasized that filling vacant posts in public universities and private aided colleges will play a crucial role in improving the quality of higher education in line with the implementation of the New Education Policy.
Speaking at a review meeting held at the Vidhan Bhavan regarding various matters related to the Higher and Technical Education Department, the Chief Minister directed that the organizational structure for teaching and non-teaching staff at non-agricultural universities be finalized promptly. He expressed full support for 100% recruitment in engineering institutions.
The meeting also addressed long-pending demands of universities. Present at the meeting were Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil, Additional Chief Secretary Venugopal Reddy, Additional Chief Secretary (Finance) O.P. Gupta, Additional Chief Secretary Saurabh, Planning Department ACS Rajgopal Deora, Vice-Chancellor of Lakshminarayan Innovative Technological University Dr. Atul Vaidya, and senior officials from the education directorates.
CM Fadnavis stated that Maharashtra has a limited number of technological universities and it is essential that they function at full capacity to increase student opportunities and raise academic standards. He approved the recruitment of 105 teaching posts and one equivalent post in Lakshminarayan Innovative Technological University. Additionally, ₹8 crore in funding was approved for day-to-day and administrative expenses, similar to other state universities.
The Chief Minister also approved recruitment for 788 teaching positions and 2,242 non-teaching posts in state universities. Recruitment of 5,012 assistant professors in non-government aided colleges under the Directorate of Higher Education was also approved. Furthermore, 100% recruitment was authorized in state-aided engineering institutes including VJTI and Guru Gobind Singh Engineering College, Nanded. A revised staffing pattern of 603 positions was sanctioned for Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Technological University.
Special Grants for Public Libraries
CM Fadnavis approved a proposal to increase library grants by 40% and directed the Finance Department to process it urgently. He also approved in principle the upgradation of public libraries in categories A, B, C, and D, and instructed that the required budget proposal be submitted. Proposals were also invited to approve new libraries equivalent to the 1,706 whose recognition was withdrawn. Moreover, public libraries completing 50, 75, or 100 years will receive special incentive grants.
Establishment of Science and Technology Department
Acknowledging the growing importance of science and technology, CM Fadnavis proposed the creation of a dedicated Department of Science and Technology in Maharashtra. He noted that many other Indian states already have such departments and suggested studying their models to frame a roadmap for setting one up in the state.
