Prosperous and Developed Cities Will Be the Foundation of Inclusive Growth in the State: CM Dr. Mohan Yadav

Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav stated that, in line with the vision of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, infrastructure is being rapidly developed in Madhya Pradesh’s cities. This will help meet the needs of the growing urban population. Prosperous and developed cities will become the cornerstone of the state’s inclusive growth. To realise this vision, the Madhya Pradesh Growth Conclave is being organized. Centered around the theme “Next Horizon: Building Cities of Tomorrow”, the conclave will bring together leading figures from India’s real estate sector to discuss the blueprint for urban development under the mission of Viksit Madhya Pradesh @2047.

Urban Development Progress in Madhya Pradesh

Madhya Pradesh’s urban economy is growing rapidly. The state has four cities with populations exceeding one million, and seven cities are included under the central government’s Smart Cities Mission. Urban infrastructure projects worth Rs. 72,000 crore are currently underway, with proposals for additional projects worth Rs. 88,000 crore in the pipeline.

The state has established a strong reputation for cleanliness. Indore has ranked as India’s cleanest city for the last seven consecutive years, and Bhopal holds the distinction of being the second cleanest capital city. An annual provision of Rs. 15,780 crore has been made in the state budget for urban development. Urban areas contribute 35.55% to the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP). Madhya Pradesh also ranks among the top performers in implementing the Government of India’s flagship urban schemes. To streamline urban development efforts, a single-window administrative system has been established.

Promising Investment Opportunities in the Housing Sector

There is strong investment potential in the housing sector in Madhya Pradesh. Over 8.32 lakh affordable houses have already been constructed, and 10 lakh new houses are under development with an estimated investment of Rs. 50,000 crore. The state also has a high-quality workforce available for the execution of real estate projects.

Urban areas in Madhya Pradesh have seen significant infrastructure expansion, including 6,000 kilometers of roads, 80% piped water supply coverage, and 100% sewerage systems. A total of 23 civic services have been digitized and made available through online platforms, and building permits are issued through a centralised portal.

Currently, 17,230 urban infrastructure projects are being implemented across the state. For environmental sustainability, projects worth Rs. 2,800 crore are underway to improve urban cleanliness, and another Rs. 2,000 crore is being invested in waterfront development.

To enhance urban mobility, projects worth Rs. 21,000 crore are being executed for expanding transportation systems. The state is also promoting electric vehicles (EVs) to reduce air pollution and minimize the carbon footprint of petroleum fuels. As part of this effort, 552 electric buses will be deployed across major cities. The Electric Vehicle Policy 2025 has been introduced to support this transition.
