UD&PA Department leads public health initiative to promote hygiene and disease prevention
Kolasib : The District Urban Development Office (DUDO) under the UD&PA Department, Kolasib, today launched a comprehensive sanitation campaign titled ‘Safai Apna, Bimaari Bhagao’ at Government Kolasib High School. The campaign aims to raise awareness on personal and community hygiene to prevent the spread of diseases.
The event was officiated by Pi Josephine Zonunsangi, District Urban Development Officer (DUDO), who highlighted the significance of maintaining cleanliness, particularly in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. She emphasized how the pandemic taught people the value of proper hygiene and hand sanitation, which proved crucial in disease prevention.
In her speech, Pi Zonunsangi stressed the importance of keeping not only ourselves but also our surroundings clean. “Maintaining cleanliness in our homes, schools, and public places is not just a personal responsibility but also a collective one,” she said. She urged everyone to treat cleanliness as a civic duty and a form of respect toward fellow citizens.
Also addressing the gathering, Pu R. Vanlalhmuaka, Additional DPC/SDEO Kolasib, spoke on the traditional image of Mizos as a clean and disciplined community. He said that beyond institutional efforts, individuals must take personal responsibility to keep their environment clean. “While schools and government departments often conduct sanitation drives, it is ultimately personal habits that determine success,” he added. He further encouraged clean eating habits, safe food preparation, and personal hygiene.
As part of the program, Pu Obed Lalhuliana, Inspector of Sanitation, conducted a practical session on proper sanitation practices. A demonstration on effective handwashing techniques was given by Tv Israela Pachuau.
Speeches were also delivered by Pu Kevina, Treasury Officer, and Pu Thomas D. Lalengliana, President of YMA Sub-Headquarters, Kolasib.
Youth leaders from KTP and PYD Kolasib Branches participated enthusiastically in the campaign, showcasing their efforts in promoting sanitation. The event concluded with an interactive hygiene training session for students, who were actively engaged and showed great interest in learning good handwashing practices.
This campaign reflects a broader initiative by the Kolasib administration to foster a culture of cleanliness and proactive public health across the district.
