Chhattisgarh’s Daughters to Make the State Proud Abroad

Chandrakala from Bijapur and Shalu from Janjgir-Champa to represent India at Asia Cup Softball Championship

Raipur : Chhattisgarh’s daughters are set to make the state proud on the international stage. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai, the state government is creating special opportunities for youth in education, employment, and sports. Daughters of Chhattisgarh are carving a new path of success through hard work, dedication, and determination—both on and off the field. The state government remains fully committed to providing all possible support and encouragement to sportspersons.

Once again, Bijapur district is making its mark in the sports world. Chandrakala Telam, a talented athlete from Awapalli village in Bijapur, has been selected to represent India’s national softball team at the upcoming Asia Cup Softball Championship 2025, scheduled to be held in Xi’an, China, from July 14 to 20. Joining her in the Indian squad is Shalu Dahariya from Pamgarh in Janjgir-Champa district, a moment of immense pride for the entire state of Chhattisgarh.

A notable highlight is that Mr. Sopan Karnewar, Labour Inspector from Bijapur district, has been appointed as coach of the Indian team. Under his guidance, many athletes from the district have already excelled at national and international levels.

The Indian team was finalized after several rigorous selection trials. Chandrakala earned her spot based on her outstanding performance in selection camps and coaching sessions held at Anantapur (Andhra Pradesh), Nagpur, Srinagar, and Indore. The team will depart for Xi’an, China, on July 13 after completing its final training in New Delhi.

Collectors from Bijapur and Janjgir-Champa districts have extended their best wishes to the team and hoped for their success. Notably, the winners and runners-up of this tournament will qualify for the Softball World Cup Championship.

The achievements of Chandrakala and Shalu Dahariya are expected to inspire many more young girls from their districts to pursue sports and aim for international recognition.
