CM Yogi lays foundation for Rs 378 Cr General Surgery building with robotic facility at KGMU
Lucknow : King George Medical University (KGMU) continues its transformation under the Yogi government, emerging as a hub of medical excellence in Uttar Pradesh. On Monday, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath laid the foundation stone for a Rs 378-crore, seven-storey General Surgery building that will feature advanced robotic surgery and world-class facilities. The building will be constructed at the cost of Rs 378 crore in two years.
According to KGMU spokesperson Prof. KK Singh, the upcoming building will be equipped with cutting-edge medical technologies and infrastructure. Key features will include 12 modular operation theatres, a 12-bed ICU, medical gas pipeline system, integrated networking, solar power systems, and robotic surgery units. This advancement is expected to elevate the capabilities of KGMU’s General Surgery Department and significantly enhance patient care.
The layout of the building has been meticulously planned to cater to both medical staff and patients. The ground floor will house the department head’s office, HRF store, patient waiting area, plasma sterilization unit, four operation theatres, a 16-bed post-operative ward, pre-anaesthesia room, power supply unit, and faculty room. The first floor will feature the professors’ chambers, a surgery library, an endoscopy suite, a day care OT, and a waiting zone. The basement will include the main surgery office, canteen, changing rooms, record and committee rooms, seminar and lecture halls, skill lab, linen room, and UG-PG section office.
Prof. KK Singh emphasized that the building will be a boon for patients awaiting complex and specialized surgeries. The new infrastructure and equipment will drastically reduce wait times and ensure higher success rates in complex procedures. Facilities like the ICU and post-op wards will enhance post-surgical care.
Under the leadership of CM Yogi Adityanath, KGMU has not only expanded its infrastructure but also set new benchmarks in medical research, education, and complex surgeries. With continued investment and vision, the university is poised to lead innovation and excellence in general surgery and beyond.
