Rapid Progress Towards TB-Free Rajasthan Under CM Bhajanlal Sharma’s Initiative
Over 7.4 Million Screened; Innovations and Consistent Efforts Drive Success
Jaipur : Under the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, Rajasthan’s Medical Department is actively working towards achieving the goal of a TB-free state as part of the national “TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan”. Since June 25, 2025, over 7.4 million individuals from high-risk groups have been screened through a door-to-door Active Case Finding (ACF) campaign, covering 44% of the target population. The campaign aims to screen a total of 16.7 million vulnerable individuals. So far, TB symptoms have been detected in 235,054 people, who have been referred to healthcare institutions for confirmation and treatment.
Aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a TB-free India, CM Sharma has directed a focused and effective strategy. The screening campaign will continue until July 21, 2025, aiming to promptly detect hidden cases and provide free treatment. The campaign targets People Living with HIV (PLHIV), diabetic patients, individuals above 60 years, the malnourished, smokers/drinkers, migrant workers, tribal populations, former TB patients, and those residing in mines, construction sites, jails, and urban slums.
Door-to-Door Screening in Full Swing
State and district-level officials have been entrusted with responsibilities to ensure comprehensive screening of vulnerable populations. Daily reviews are conducted to monitor progress. This doorstep initiative is a decisive step toward the national goal of TB elimination. With dedicated efforts by district teams and active public participation, timely detection and treatment are helping break the chain of infection.
Rajasthan Ranks Third in TB-Free Panchayats
Thanks to CM Sharma’s constant oversight, Rajasthan declared 3,350 gram panchayats TB-free in 2024, significantly boosting awareness and community involvement. The state ranks third nationally in this campaign. Moreover, 35,117 “Nikshay Mitras” have registered so far, offering TB patients nutritional, psychological, and logistical support.
Technology and Innovation Leading the Way
Real-time monitoring of TB patient identification, treatment, and payments is being done through the Nikshay Portal. Surveys under the TB case-finding campaign are being carried out via the ASHA Digital Health App, and tracked through live dashboards. By prioritizing NAAT-based tests for suspected cases, the state has made notable progress in rapid and accurate diagnosis. TB control efforts have been further strengthened through a participation-based model involving NGOs, CSR partners, and private doctors. At the district level, interdepartmental coordination with Police, Women & Child Development, Education, and Labour Departments is ensuring a comprehensive strategy. The campaign is being executed with micro-planning, 100% data entry, and real-time reporting focused on sensitive populations.
Enhanced Infrastructure and Resources
As directed by Health Minister Gajendra Singh Khimsar, the state has scaled up infrastructure at district and block levels, including 629 NAAT machines, microscopy centers, X-ray units, and lab technicians. In 2024, the state reported 171,415 TB cases, achieving 101% of the set target. As of June 2025, 89,132 cases have been notified, surpassing the 110% mark of the current year’s goal. Notably, the NAAT technique allows quick and accurate diagnosis, ensuring timely treatment and reducing the spread of infection.
