Nagpur’s Expanded Legislature Building Will Be Grand and Iconic – Assembly Speaker Adv. Rahul Narwekar
Presentation of the Architectural Plan Held in Mumbai
Mumbai : The architectural plan for the expansion of the Nagpur Vidhan Bhavan (Legislature Building) and the proposed new administrative complex was presented today. Speaking on the occasion, Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Speaker Adv. Rahul Narwekar expressed that the expansion and the new building should be constructed in a grand and majestic manner.

The presentation was attended by several dignitaries, including Legislative Council Chairman Prof. Ram Shinde, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Chandrakant (Dada) Patil, Public Works Minister Shivrendra Singh Bhosale, and others. The architectural presentation was delivered by renowned architect Hafeez Contractor.
As per the plan, a new seven-storey complex will be constructed on the site of the existing Assembly building in Nagpur. Care will be taken to preserve the historic architectural style of the current structure during the expansion. The new complex will house a central hall, chambers for the Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council, offices for the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Ministers, Speaker of the Assembly, Chairman of the Council, and Leaders of the Opposition – all under one roof.
Adjacent to this, a separate six-storey building will be constructed for cabinet members. Additional facilities will include parking areas, a cafeteria, a visitor lounge, and a security control room. The land previously occupied by the Government Press has now been allocated to the Legislature, where a 14-storey towering administrative building with a built-up area of approximately four lakh square feet is proposed to be developed. An underground tunnel will connect the Vidhan Bhavan premises to this proposed administrative building for seamless accessibility.
The entire expansion and construction work will be executed through the Maharashtra Infrastructure Development Corporation (MIDC). Assembly Speaker Adv. Narwekar instructed the Corporation to submit a detailed proposal regarding the project.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis emphasized the implementation of a green building concept for both the expansion and new construction. He also suggested that adequate space should be reserved for visitors, including provisions for a cafeteria, within the proposed design of the Vidhan Bhavan expansion.
