Consultative Meeting Held On Vision Olympics 2036

Aizawl : The Department of Sports & Youth Services (S&YS) today convened a consultative meeting on Vision Olympics 2036 with representatives from 34 different sports disciplines at the Directorate of Sports & Youth Services Conference Hall.

Pu H. Dolianbuaia, Joint Secretary, S&YS, addressed the gathering and highlighted that athletes from Mizoram have already won nearly 50 medals at various editions of the National Games. He emphasized that preparing athletes to qualify for the Olympics is a crucial goal, and the government remains committed to intensifying its efforts in this direction. He stated that sports not only provide employment opportunities and contribute to the economy but also serve as a positive path for youth development and social well-being. He added that achieving Vision Olympics 2036 requires integration with the education system and collaboration among parents, communities, and all stakeholders to support aspiring athletes.

Pu Henry C. Lalrawnkima, Secretary of the Mizoram State Sports Council (MSSC), expressed gratitude to the participants and reiterated the theme of the meeting. He noted that as India aims to host the 2036 Olympics, efforts are underway to ensure that Mizo athletes are adequately prepared to qualify and participate. He also emphasized the vital role of coaches who possess the technical knowledge, skill-building abilities, and motivational capacity to guide athletes towards excellence. Their contribution is considered key to the success of Vision Olympics 2036.

The meeting was chaired by Pi Marilyn Rualzakhumthangi, Deputy Secretary, S&YS. Coaches and representatives from various sports associations discussed their current preparations, future plans, and performance targets with regard to the 2036 Olympics. After the discussions, Pu H. Lalhmingthanga, Director, S&YS, delivered concluding remarks and expressed appreciation to all participants.

Pu C. Lalremsanga, who represented India in Archery at the 1992 Barcelona and 1996 Atlanta Summer Olympics, was also present at the meeting.

Prior to the consultative session, the Directorate of Sports & Youth Services had collected reports from each sports discipline. These reports, along with the insights gathered from today’s discussions, will serve as the foundation for strategic planning and policy formulation aimed at advancing Vision Olympics 2036. The department intends to develop a roadmap and action plan to guide athlete development and Olympic preparedness across the state.
