Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh Sworn In as Chief Justice of Telangana High Court
Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh took oath as the Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court on Saturday, following his transfer from the Tripura High Court. His elevation was recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium on May 28 and approved by the Union government earlier this week.
Justice Singh succeeds Justice Sujoy Paul, who has been transferred to the Calcutta High Court. The swearing-in ceremony marks a significant transition in the Telangana judiciary, with Justice Singh bringing extensive judicial experience to his new post.
Born on July 7, 1965, Justice Singh holds a BA Honours and LLB from the University of Delhi. He hails from a distinguished legal lineage—his maternal great-grandfather, the late B.P. Sinha, was the sixth Chief Justice of India.
Justice Singh began his legal career in 1990, practicing as an advocate at the Patna High Court. After the establishment of the Jharkhand High Court in 2001, he shifted his practice to Ranchi and continued until his elevation to the Bench.
He was appointed as an Additional Judge of the Jharkhand High Court on January 24, 2012, and became a permanent judge on January 16, 2014. His judicial journey also included serving as the Acting Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court from December 20, 2022, to February 19, 2023. In April 2021, he was appointed as Executive Chairman of the Jharkhand State Legal Services Authority.
Justice Singh was sworn in as Chief Justice of the Tripura High Court on April 17, 2023, before being transferred to Telangana in July 2025.
Meanwhile, the Union government has also cleared several other judicial transfers. Chief Justice K.R. Shriram of the Madras High Court has been posted to the Rajasthan High Court, while Rajasthan Chief Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava moves to the Madras High Court. Additionally, Justice M.S. Ramachandra Rao, Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court, has been transferred to the Tripura High Court.
These judicial reshuffles are part of the Supreme Court Collegium’s efforts to maintain a balanced and efficient judiciary across India’s High Courts, ensuring leadership transitions bring in capable and experienced jurists.
