Chief Minister’s Medical Relief Fund Cell: A Lifeline for the Common Citizen
The Chief Minister’s Relief Fund Cell at the Hon’ble Chief Minister’s Office provides financial assistance to patients suffering from severe illnesses by covering treatment expenses through the respective hospitals. Due to a high volume of applications received for such assistance, many patients and their families were previously compelled to visit the state secretariat (Mantralaya) in Mumbai for follow-ups. To ensure easier access to these services, district-level Chief Minister’s Relief Fund Cells were formally inaugurated on May 1, 2025—coinciding with Maharashtra Day—within each district collectorate office.
Now, underprivileged patients can apply directly from their respective districts. The local help desks provide all necessary documents and guidance for the application process, including information on affiliated hospitals and real-time updates on application status. This eliminates the need to travel to Mumbai for submission or follow-up.
Required Documents for CM’s Medical Relief Fund:
- Application in the prescribed format
- Geo-tagged photo if the patient is hospitalized
- Medical treatment estimate/certificate on original letterhead with doctor’s signature and seal
- For private hospitals, certification is needed from the district-level CMRF Cell’s medical officer/dean/superintendent or relevant subject professor from a government medical college
- Income certificate from the Tehsildar (must be below ₹1.60 lakh annual income)
- Patient’s Aadhaar card (must be a Maharashtra resident); for minors, mother’s Aadhaar
- Medical reports related to the illness
- Ensure the hospital is registered in the CM Relief Fund’s system
- FIR for accident cases
- In case of organ transplants, either the hospital’s registration certificate or receipt from ZTCC (Zonal Transplant Coordination Committee) must be attached

Important Scheme Guidelines:
- Patients should explore other schemes such as Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jan Arogya Yojana, RBSK (Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram), and Charitable Hospitals Scheme for maximum benefit.
- The CM’s Relief Fund offers aid only to patients who are not covered under the above schemes, due to its limited financial capacity.
- No aid will be provided if the patient has already been discharged from the hospital, as verification becomes difficult.
- Assistance is not provided for treatment at hospitals outside Maharashtra, as the state government cannot verify their utility certificates.
Financial Aid Limits (as per CM Medical Committee recommendations):
Depending on the nature of the illness and committee evaluation, financial assistance is granted in slabs of ₹25,000, ₹50,000, ₹1 lakh, and up to a maximum of ₹2 lakh.
The Chief Minister’s Medical Assistance Cell thus continues to serve as a vital support system for the economically weaker sections of society, ensuring access to life-saving healthcare across the state.
