Chief Minister’s Relief Fund: A Lifeline for Poor and Needy Patients
In a significant step toward ensuring a healthier life for citizens of Maharashtra, the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund is providing essential support for the treatment of poor and underprivileged patients suffering from serious illnesses. This initiative has become a crucial support system for countless families during health crises. In today’s fast-paced life, health emergencies can strike without warning, often placing entire families under financial and emotional strain. In such times, the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund proves to be a much-needed source of hope and stability.
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, this fund has been launched to assist the economically weaker sections of society by offering financial aid for treatment of critical diseases.
Speaking about the initiative, Rameshwar Naik, Head of the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund and Charitable Hospital Assistance Cell, stated that the number of beneficiaries is growing daily. “We are working hard to ensure that help reaches needy patients on time. With the CM’s compassionate guidance, district-level cells have been set up, bringing immense relief to patients,” he added.
What is the Chief Minister’s Medical Relief Fund?
The CM Medical Relief Fund is a government initiative that provides financial assistance to economically weaker patients for the treatment of life-threatening diseases.
Who is eligible?
- The applicant must be a resident of Maharashtra.
- The annual income must be less than ₹1.60 lakh.
- The patient must be receiving treatment at a government, charitable, or government-recognized private hospital.

- Cochlear Implant Surgery (ages 2–6)
- Heart Transplant
- Liver Transplant
- Kidney Transplant
- Lung Transplant
- Bone Marrow Transplant
- Hand Reconstruction Surgery
- Hip Replacement
- Cancer surgeries, Chemotherapy, and Radiation Therapy
- Ligament surgeries
- Neonatal illnesses
- Knee Replacement
- Road traffic accidents (especially involving two-wheelers)
- Pediatric surgeries
- Brain diseases
- Heart diseases
- Dialysis
- Burn victims
- Electrical injuries
Required Documents:
- Doctor’s medical certificate
- Hospital’s cost estimate
- Income certificate
- Aadhaar card of patient; for children, mother’s Aadhaar
- Ration card
- Diagnostic and treatment-related documents
- FIR report in case of accidents
- ZTCC certificate for organ transplant patients
- Domicile proof (Maharashtra residency)
Application Process:
The proposal is prepared by the hospital and submitted through the District CM Relief Fund Cell at the Collector’s Office to the state ministry in Mumbai. The committee evaluates the case and approves the financial aid accordingly.
Hospital Criteria:
The hospital must be government-run, charitable, or government-recognized private.
How much assistance can be provided?
Depending on the illness, patients can receive up to ₹2 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
What is FCRA Approval and its benefit?
With FCRA (Foreign Contribution Regulation Act) approval, the fund is now eligible to accept foreign donations. This increases the availability of funds, allowing treatment for more patients, especially those requiring expensive procedures.
