Kuleshwari Becomes Self-Reliant Through Fish Farming
Rural Livelihood Mission Becomes a Source of Sustenance
Raipur : The National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) is proving to be a powerful tool for the economic empowerment of rural women. Under this scheme, Self-Help Groups (SHGs) are provided with loans and linked to livelihood-based activities, helping women in villages move swiftly towards self-reliance.
One such success story is that of Kuleshwari Sahu from Bhalapur village in Mungeli development block. Earlier, she relied on traditional farming and daily wage labor as the sole source of income for her family. However, the limited earnings were not enough to meet household expenses, and the family faced continuous financial hardship.
After joining the Maa Sheetla Self-Help Group, Kuleshwari received a loan of ₹3 lakh, which she used to start fish farming in her private pond. Within just one year, she sold fish worth ₹6 lakh and earned a net profit of ₹3 lakh.
Expressing her gratitude towards the government and the administration, Kuleshwari said that the NRLM scheme not only improved her financial condition but transformed her entire life and that of her family. She now plans to expand her livelihood by adopting other income-generating activities along with fish farming to further increase her earnings.
The NRLM scheme is not only providing financial support to rural women but is also creating opportunities for self-employment and livelihood development in villages. The initiative is enabling women to lead self-reliant and dignified lives, becoming a true driver of change in rural India.
