Udhayanidhi Stalin Honours 5,788 Students for Sporting Achievements Across National and State Levels
Hon’ble Tamil Nadu Minister for Youth Welfare and Sports Development, Mr. Udhayanidhi Stalin, felicitated meritorious students who secured medals in various sports competitions held at the zonal, national, and state levels during the academic year 2024–2025. The award ceremony took place at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium, Chennai.
During the event, Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin presented commendation certificates to students from government, government-aided, and private schools who excelled in different categories. In addition, he also released a physical education guidebook titled “Vaayunool”, aimed at promoting students’ physical well-being and active lifestyles.
Organized under the School Education Department’s physical education wing, the Tamil Nadu government has been conducting 26 types of sports competitions annually at the block, district, and state levels in the under-14, under-17, and under-19 categories for school students. Additionally, students from Tamil Nadu schools have been performing exceptionally well in 46 different competitions conducted at the national level by the School Games Federation of India.
Medal Tally for the 2024–2025 Academic Year:
- International Level: Students from government, aided, and private schools won a total of 126 medals – 76 gold, 26 silver, and 24 bronze.
- National Level: Students bagged 917 medals – 348 gold, 236 silver, and 333 bronze.
- State Level: A massive 4,745 medals were won – 1,484 gold, 1,522 silver, and 1,739 bronze.
Altogether, 5,788 students from schools across Tamil Nadu were awarded certificates of appreciation for their sporting achievements across all three levels.
