Under CM Bhajanlal Sharma’s Leadership, Rajasthan Witnesses a New Green Revolution
— Over 68.1 Million Saplings Planted Across the State in “Hariyalo Rajasthan” Campaign
Jaipur — Rajasthan has embarked on a new green revolution under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Bhajanlal Sharma. The massive tree plantation drive, Hariyalo Rajasthan (“One Tree in the Name of Mother”), has emerged as a landmark initiative in environmental conservation. What began as a government effort has now evolved into a mass movement, with public participation alongside government and non-government institutions planting saplings across the state.
In just four months, more than 68.1 million saplings have been planted across Rajasthan, marking a significant step towards increasing the state’s green cover.
Environmental protection and conservation are deeply rooted in Indian culture. The people of Rajasthan regard the protection of trees as a key moral duty towards nature. In alignment with these values, CM Sharma launched the Hariyalo Rajasthan mega campaign not just to plant saplings, but to ensure their growth into mature trees. Inspired by the Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “One Tree in the Name of Mother” initiative, the campaign encourages families to nurture the planted trees like a member of their household.
CM’s Active Monitoring Drives Success
CM Sharma has been actively monitoring the campaign’s progress, leading to new records and unprecedented public participation. Appealing to citizens, he said, “Plant a tree in your mother’s name and care for it as a moral responsibility.” To aid ongoing tracking, the Hariyalo Rajasthan mobile app was launched, through which lakhs of tree enthusiasts have already received digital certificates for their participation.
Tree Plantation at Over 180,000 Locations
The campaign has reached every corner of Rajasthan, generating historic public participation. With support from the state’s 80 million citizens, 68,160,999 saplings were planted between 1 April and 29 July 2025, spanning 180,456 locations and involving over 53 species of plants.
Green Movement Reaches Rural Hamlets
The Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj played a leading role by planting over 23.3 million saplings, reaching even the smallest villages and hamlets. The Forest Department contributed 17.6 million saplings, helping conserve biodiversity. The Education Department also took the movement into schools and colleges, planting 11.4 million saplings and instilling a love for nature among children.
Jaipur Leads with Over 6.6 Million Saplings
Among districts, Jaipur led the way with more than 6.6 million saplings planted, followed by Udaipur with 3.3 million, and Jaisalmer with 3.2 million. Citizens, NGOs, and the state government together transformed environmental consciousness into a people’s revolution.
Record: 25.4 Million Saplings in a Single Day
On 27 July, during the state-level Van Mahotsav held in Madau, Jaipur, CM Sharma called on the public to plant trees in large numbers in celebration of Hariyali Teej. In response, the state set a record by planting 25.4 million saplings in a single day.
The Hariyalo Rajasthan mission aims to plant 500 million saplings over five years, with a target of 100 million saplings in 2025 alone. The initiative, launched last year on Hariyali Teej, drew inspiration from the “One Tree in the Name of Mother” message and resulted in over 70 million saplings planted in its first year.
This statewide green revolution, powered by the people’s enthusiasm and government commitment, is paving the way for a cleaner, greener Rajasthan.
