Tata-Run Skill Development Centre to Create Bright Employment Opportunities for Youth
Raigad District, Aug 2025 : A new Skill Development Centre is being established at Roha through a collaboration between the State Government and Tata Group. This ambitious project is expected to be completed by May 2026. Currently, AI is being extensively used across various sectors, making it essential to adopt advanced technology in the coming times. Students and entrepreneurs in the district should take advantage of the training provided at this center, stated Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar during the foundation stone laying ceremony today.
The foundation stone of the Tata-run Skill Development Centre at Roha was laid by Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Ajit Pawar, in collaboration with Tata, MIDC, and Roha Municipal Council, and with the initiative of MP Sunil Tatkare.
Present on the occasion were Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare, MP Sunil Tatkare, former MLA Aniket Tatkare, President of Mangav Education Society Adv. Rajeev Sable, CEO Neha Bhosale, District Superintendent of Police Aachal Dalal, Additional District Collector Sunil Thorve, District Civil Surgeon Dr. Nishikant Patil, Sushil Kumar (Global Head of Government Projects & Skill Development, Tata Technologies Pune), Pritam Ganjewar (Project Coordinator, Tata Technologies Pune), among others.
Ajit Pawar stated that the project will benefit students from Raigad district and the MSME sector by providing advanced skill training, leading to large-scale employment generation. About 3,000 students will complete various courses from this centre every year. “Tata Group is synonymous with trust, and hence, the project will be completed within the stipulated timeframe,” he assured.
Roha taluka, known for its paddy farming and rich cultural and spiritual heritage, will now provide trained skilled manpower to industries. The Tata Group’s contribution to this center is significant, and step-by-step, the government plans to establish such Skill Development Centres in every district across the state. This initiative will enhance technical education and natural skill development, creating bright employment opportunities for the youth and allowing locals to secure jobs within their hometowns, Pawar added.
Minister Aditi Tatkare mentioned that Roha MIDC is unique in that industries here seldom relocate. The establishment of this project with Tata Group’s assistance is a matter of pride. With the foundation stone being laid by Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, the project will see the construction of a quality building within the set deadline. She further added that this project will benefit students and the MSME sector in Roha and Raigad, providing high-level training programs aimed at enhancing job opportunities, fostering entrepreneurship, and developing innovative skill-based resources.
MP Sunil Tatkare said that the Skill Development Centre at Roha is a flagship project, urging students and MSMEs to take full advantage of the training provided. He informed that Tata Group’s significant contribution will ensure the project is completed within six months, with a focus on industry-oriented training. He also appealed to educational institutions in the district to benefit from this project.
During the event, Deputy CM Ajit Pawar distributed property ownership documents to five beneficiaries from villages whose property mapping and records have been completed. Additionally, under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Housing for All), regularized encroachments were granted ownership certificates.
The program was attended by Sub-Divisional Officer Dnyaneshwar Khutwad, Chief Officer and Administrator of Roha Municipal Council Ajaykumar Edhke, Chief Engineer of MSEB Prakash Chavan, municipal council members, government officials, and a large number of citizens.
Information about the Roha Skill Development Centre:
Tata Technologies Ltd. had expressed interest in developing a project in collaboration with MIDC to support student skill development and boost industrial productivity in Raigad district. The centre aims to train approximately 3,000 students annually. The total project cost, including building construction and training expenses, is estimated at ₹115 crore. Of this, Tata Technologies will contribute around ₹98 crore, while the remaining ₹17 crore (excluding GST) will be provided by the Corporation with Board approval.
Roha Municipal Council has allocated 18,500 sq. ft. (1,700 sq. m.) of land for this project. The Skill Development Centre, also known as the Centre for Invention, Innovation, Incubation, and Training (CIIIT), will have a built-up area of 12,500 sq. ft., constructed by Tata Technologies. The building plans are in the final approval stage, and construction is expected to commence soon, with completion targeted by May 2026.
The project includes infrastructure, machinery, industrial hardware, professional tools, software, and other equipment, which will be handed over to the Corporation. Tata Technologies will operate and manage the training centre. The centre will run 9 specialized courses to develop industry-relevant skills.
