Indian Firm Partners With Elbit to Offer Advanced MRL.

India’s Nibe Limited has signed an agreement with Elbit Systems to build the Israeli firm’s Precise and Universal Launching System (PULS) multiple rocket launcher (MRL) in India. The agreement covers the system’s production and supply for both domestic and international customers and transfer of technology.

This is the first time an international MRL will be manufactured in India, boosting the country’s technical expertise in this niche capability and positioning it as a potential global supplier of MRL systems. “This partnership will enable the manufacturing and supply of the Universal Rocket Launcher (SURYA), a highly advanced defence system capable of engaging targets with precision over a range of up to 300 kilometres (186 miles)”, a statement by the Indian company read.

The agreement also offers a more capable option to the Indian Army compared to the indigenous Pinaka MRL system. The Pinaka is a 214mm system developed by India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation, with the baseline variant having a range of 37.5 kilometres (23 miles) and the Mk 2, extending to 60 kilometres (37 miles).

The extended-range Mk 2 variant can strike targets up to 90 kilometres (56 miles), while two additional versions are under development, with planned ranges of 120 kilometres (74 miles) and 300 kilometres (186 miles), respectively.

In comparison, the PULS system features a universal launcher capable of firing a variety of munitions, including 122mm, 160mm, and 306mm rockets, as well as tactical ballistic missiles like the Predator Hawk, which has a range of 300 kilometres (186 miles).

The system also features a modular design that enables integration with a range of wheeled or tracked chassis, including 4×4, 6×6, and 8×8 configurations. Moreover, it is compatible with country-specific fire-control systems, allowing for seamless integration into existing command and control architectures.
