Qureshi Community Organizations Call Off Strike After Deputy CM’s Assurance

Mumbai, Aug 2025 : The Qureshi community, traditionally involved in the meat trade, forms an integral part of Maharashtra’s agriculture-based economy. Therefore, no injustice will be allowed against traders of this community or farmers involved in livestock transportation, assured Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.

A meeting was organized under the chairmanship of Deputy CM Ajit Pawar in the committee room at Mantralaya to discuss various issues concerning the Qureshi community.

Discussion with Union Minister Nitin Gadkari
During the meeting, Deputy CM Pawar held a telephonic discussion with Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, informing him about the difficulties faced by Qureshi community members during livestock transportation. He requested Minister Gadkari to hold discussions with the Qureshi delegation regarding amendments needed in the existing laws concerning livestock transportation.

Deputy CM Pawar assured that the state government is committed to resolving the problems faced by Qureshi traders and farmers involved in animal transportation and will not tolerate any injustice against them. He appealed to the representatives of the Qureshi community to withdraw their strike, to which the representatives responded positively and announced the withdrawal of the agitation.

Present at the meeting were MLAs Sana Malik and Sanjay Khedekar, former minister Nawab Malik, Director General of Police Rashmi Shukla, Mumbai Police Commissioner Deven Bharti, and representatives from Federation of Maharashtrian Muslims, Mumbai Aman Committee, Al-Quresh Social Development Board, All India Jamiat-ul-Quresh Organization, and All Maharashtra Jamiat-ul-Quresh Organization.
